I picked up a Savage 12fv from Cabelas on sale for $338 earlier in the year to have a cheap bolt 308 to compare against a couple of semi autos I have. I used some Devcon to bed it into a Boyd's stock, and put a Chinese Vortex on it. The floating bolt head and setting the headspace by threading the barrel into receiver until it stops on a go gauge seem to really make this a decent little budget bolt gun. The accutrigger is also not bad. Mine measured at 2.8 lbs. I like the Timney in my kar98 better, but there's no need to change it. Groups turned out pretty decent for off bipod shooting. 100yd groups

    They'll definitely shoot.

You can turn the trigger down to 2 lbs easy and a little modification will get it even lower and still be safe.

Best bang for the buck bolt action rifle on the market(as long as you aren't looking for a light gun). I also like the 10T, which is a Cabela's exclusive also.

Nice - I've got two and they're definitely shooters. You can get the target spring for the accu trigger to make it lighter too. The FV's are supposed to come with the "varmint/LE" spring that's a little stiffer.
