If, on the other hand, the virus and an eventual COVID vaccine is ultimately similar in behavior to seasonal influenza we may be re-living this next April.

    (emphasis mine)

I don't think so, because "this" doesn't scale. IOW, we can't "re-live" it, let alone so soon as next April, because we'll still be neck-deep in the economic consequences of the original version next April, and thus a repeat of the panic/shutdown will have a compounding effect, not an initial effect. Think about getting stabbed. That single act might have fatal consequences (blood loss, organ failure, or even from infection over time) or leave you teetering near death, so suffering from 2 concurrent stab wounds is obviously distinct from "re-living" the initial stabbing. Re-living would be a 2nd stabbing so far in the future that you both escaped death initially and your body completely healed from that initial attack.

Given that we don't know how badly we've wrecked the economy from this initial strategy (we don't know how bad our stab wound really is yet), a compounding effect increases the odds of finishing us off, economically speaking. There's already looting in a number of cities, yet we're not even at peak viral effects, and certainly our proximity to peak economic damage is better measured in months or even years. This train has barely left the station.

Wait until fall, when the recession/depression has some momentum behind it because the summer seasonal businesses were stillborn, and there's no stored fat for their lean winter months. Certainly no retail rescue from Christmas this year, and we won't see those effects until early next year, but we can be sure they'll be very nasty. Ripple effects onto other industries will collide, and like waves colliding in the ocean from opposite directions, where rogue waves are formed -- collateral economic damage in some cases will be devastating. Even if we hold on by the skin of our teeth, another attack next year would really reduce the odds of survival, much like getting stabbed that 2nd time. Roll the dice again on hitting a vital organ, how much more blood loss can you stand, how much infection can you stand, etc, etc.

Humans have such a bad time comprehending so-called "black swan" events it shouldn't be surprising, and of course individuals see the world through the tint of their own glasses, but "this" isn't a "new normal" or any of the cutesy cliches currently in circulation. From the narrow viewpoint of, e.g., an epidemiologist, it's clearly possible to "re-live" what's happening on a population sample (that's just simple arithmetic), but once you factor in the economic consequences, it's definitely not.

And that's why a solution developed purely from the blinkered viewpoint of the health care industry was a poor choice. In fairness, a solution developed from any single viewpoint would be a poor choice, but again, humans, black swan events, emotions -- this was never going to end well.

Hold on tight, it's going to be a wild ride!

    He’s “special.”

I had him on the spreadsheet for so long I actually forgot about it. Took him off when the gibberish volume grew so I wouldn’t be surprised when that train finally skips the track.

    Charmed, am I?

I enjoy keeping some anonymity for multiple reasons.

I know and have met up with and communicated personally with some here that also embrace and honor such anonymity. Some know my profession.

BTW If ever I do something ban-worthy so be it.

Some here seem to think this pandemic is some sort of exaggeration or fake or new world order conspiracy or some such malarkey. Profoundly disturbing.
This is in no way a war though it is germane to the discussion that we are loosing more men and women that we have in wartime and some still mock the gravity of our unprecedented disaster or see it as a fake or hoax. It is just beginning, particularly in our state.

I have plenty to do this week. Just got off another update conference call.
I'll lurk but touch back verbally at the end of the week when the tone will be quite more morose and serious. No loss for either of us. Will check back maybe Friday.

Pack it in boys. We won't be done graced again until Friday. Golly gee. Guess I'll have to retire to bumpkinville until we can be visited by our savior once more.

This is either the worst case of Asperger's or trolling I've seen in quite some time.

    Truly and profoundly disturbing.

You're afraid of sedated tigers, too? Or did you just reveal you'll gladly state an opinion based on one sentence instead of the entire article I linked?

I suspect the latter which lays question to all the "information" you provide.

..One of my close shooting buddies is a pulmonologist intensivist that has now
tubed several, quite recently healthy, COVID victims.
About 85% of them will be dead soon and he has no medication with which to intervene to ameliorate their rapid decline into hypoxic brain death. He tells me he just cranks up the vent settings until they die...
Please explain which of the four types of hypoxia your buddy’s procedure induces, because that’s not how it works.

Well it got too close to home. It seems a grandson and granddaughter along with their mother have all the symptoms, tested negative for flu. The other 2 grandsons and their dad, my son, nothing yet but??? Are all quarantined for 7 days. No tests are available to confirm to confirm or deny. She's been working from home but he hasn't (truck driver) but now having to use 5 sick days to keep the paycheck coming. After that???. So much for Henderson County having only 1 case.

They haven't been around us for over 2 weeks so we should be good.

    Prayers appreciated.

Encourage them to take Zinc and plenty of vitamin C. There’s a lot of interesting stuff floating around in the natural treatment - leaning doctor communities. Will pray.
