I had a friend who was the Chief Horticulturist at the Arlington National Cemetery. When I was back in Washington, D.C. one time, he gave me a guided tour of the park and it was quite impressive. Although the famous tombs and some of the little known graves (like the slaves who served on the original Lee plantation) were interesting, I will never forget standing there looking out over the acres and acres of crosses on the graves of the thousands of ordinary men who gave everything so that we might enjoy the freedom we still hold on to by a thread. When I talk with folks about my visit to Arlington, they always ask about the Challenger, Kennedy or other sites, but I tell them it is really about the simple crosses on the graves of simple but brave men, not the celebrities.

I went to the cemetery at Arlington once. There is a national cemetery in Florence, SC not too far from where I used to live. I have visited it many times. It is a beautiful and touching place at Christmas time when every headstone has a wreath placed on it.

I have visited Arlington and the Vietnam Memorial. Both were very moving seeing all the crosses and all the names on the wall. I plan to take my kids there when they are old enough to understand.

We were told this is the only time bikes are allowed in ANC. The bike in front of mine had a Tx plate showing DFC.

I know the Wall was impressive. I had not seen pictures of it and was surprised the way is was built. Somebody was thinking outside the box and it worked. You get a chance go to the D-Day Memorial over in Va. I didn't know it existed and it was incredible. Makes Washington's Memorials look bad. The closest DC has is the Lincoln Memorial.

I watched the changing of the guard.
I visited the wall. The whole Arlington cemetery and the memorials at the mall. They hit my feels.
I'm still having trouble at the Veterans cemetery here in Abilene. I miss my dad. Gone but never forgotten.
    Thanks men.

You are talking about the memorial in Bedford, VA. Bedford is not too far from where I grew up. If I remember correctly, Bedford suffered the largest amount of casualties per capita of any city in the US. The memorial there is impressive and very emotional.

All you veterans make sure you have your DD214 available to your family if you want to be buried in a military cemetery with military honors. I keep a scanned copy on my phone.
