I think it will have some teeth and cause the media giants to choose if they are a platform or publisher and stop letting them ride the fence.

Ya the Hawaii judge will squash it if she is fast enough to beat all the other libs.

Hopefully the SC will make just as fast of an action on it.

Trump needs to join Twiterholics anonymous and stop worrying about SJWs opinions.

No idea what the EO says but we already have a 1st Amendment, move along to bigger fish.

It has nothing to do with the first amendment as right now social media is immune from being sued as they are considered a common carrier and not a publisher.

They stop being a common carrier when they alter or have a view on what is posted.

As such they should loose the common carrier status and be liable for what is posted as they are now a publisher.

Didn't Don Lemon say something to the effect of "stop hiding behind the 1st Amendment"? When it comes to Libs don't count on something like The Constitution to help 'ya.

When they determine content they assume some responsibility for that content as they are no longer simply a neutral conveyance. I.e. we deem this content acceptable

I’ve long thought the social media giants will continue down this censorship path until they force the government to enact laws, treating them like Public Utilities.

The public’s outrage at their loss of First Amendment Rights will force the government’s hand to take action against the social media giants. They already are no longer just “private companies” - so they’re about to learn, that claim isn’t going to offer them protection from government action.

Companies / services like Facebook/Instagram and Twitter, Google/Alphabet/YouTube that have a defacto monopoly on how the majority of people voice their opinions have pushed boundaries and blurred the line between public utility / public forum and private entity. Its easy to say that the 1A doesn't apply to them or their users because they're private, and thus can control any and all use / speech across their platforms, but when those platforms, along with the TV networks make up the vast, vast majority of how information and ideas are shared today - its hard to argue for their right to censor material and ban people.

The President cannot delete his "tweets" because they're considered a public record, but Twitter has been caught deleting / hiding his tweets - they should be slapped with destruction of public records if the POTUS can't do it. Again - they're becoming a public forum and not simply a private entity. We're in an age of technical and societal "evolution" - and there are no serious alternatives to any of the afore mentioned platforms. There are no neutral / conservative alternatives to the big liberal/left biased organizations.

Twitter, YouTube/Google and Facebook have all thrown in behind the CCP and their puppet the WHO, and are censoring posts and deleting users who post information and ideas contrary to the party approved bullshit. If that behavior is allowed to stand, then we're ceding control of the political process and the mass influence/"education" of the public at large to them, and in a generation we will loose the republic and become another failing socialist state.

They've been censoring / banning conservative and libertarian content producers and users for a long time. They're actively silencing people they don't agree with. If there were tangible, real alternatives, then it wouldn't be an issue, the problem is that like Microsoft in the 1990's, there was no serious alternative. The "competitors" have a fraction of the market share and voice, and often times get swallowed up by the giant to prevent them from gaining ground.

The tech giants / media corporations have created this monster.

Social media claims they provide a public forum and are not responsible for content.

Social media also claims that they’re a private forum and can censor anything they want.

They can’t have it both ways.

Maybe we should stop wishing for an alternative and build one. I'm in, though I don't use social media and have no real understanding. I'm pretty quick on the uptake, can code a little and will make the time. Seems to me with all the controversy people might embrace a fresh idea.

The irony is that if this passed the inevitable result is that Trump would be banned due to his posts.

True, but then as publishers they could be sued into oblivion.

I’m ok with that outcome, so long as it stops social media from playing both sides of the coin. Oh and if they are no longer the public forum they sold themselves as, I want my billions in tax dollars back.
