Many, many years ago I had some 7.62X39 plastic ammo. It wouldn't cycle a Mac90 or SKS, of course. But, At 25 yards it would pierce a piece of cardboard. I wouldn't want to get shot with one at close range.

The only people I feel at all sorry for are the ones (probably very few) who come out with the intent to peacefully petition, get caught in a brewing riot, and are unable to leave despite legitimately trying to leave and not participating in violence, but get caught in the crossfire. It's a pretty crappy situation for them. The rest can suck tear gas.
People that stupid are guilty by association!

I figured that the "rubber bullets" everyone is talking about are actually pepper balls out of a paintball gun.
I think you may be right. There are a couple of people in Austin hospitals who got shot in the head with those "less than lethal projectiles" during the recent protests...........they are in critical but stable condition.

Like anything common sense prevails. Joe Blowhard cannot just go out & buy much of it because he aint trained or to stupid to avoid head shots! I heard of a guy getting paid $350.00 to get shot with a 40 mm sponge round. It didn't kill en or overly do to much damage, but he later said $350.00 wasn't enough!

Appears that one of the best ways to keep from getting injured or killed is .........wait for it! .........Don't go to the streets during a riot, etc.!

But, some people are slow learners!
And what if you go out there before there's a riot? You see it starting, and try to make your way out, but you can't get away before someone decides to shoot you in the teeth with a beanbag round?

Given the makeup of my "neighborhood", any lessons they learn here are likely to be the last lesson they learn.

Play stupid games, win stupid prizes. Stay away from events and activities that have any probability of escalating to violence.

Colleteral damage is a known fact. Being in the wrong place, at the wrong time is always a possibility. I'll be 61 in July. The few things that I have protested are my property taxes, & 1 trip to Austin for concealed carry. Like most productive citizens my ass was either at work or resting to go back to work. I guess listening to my dad opinions of the protesters growing up in Chicago hit home for me.

Don't go to the streets during a riot, etc.! I learned that a long time ago, and stay away from obvious drunks. You don't suddenly find yourself in the midst of a mob. Well, once in NYC coming out of a movie and street (times square) was lined with cops due to a bomb threat. Just walked down the street and got out of the way. In HS somebody decided to bus kids to the ball game. Stadium was in 'their' turf and riot/fight started on the field that cops had to break up. Had to watch the little kids with souvenir baseball bats - would hit you in the leg and run around the corner where the big 'boys' were!

So you're supposed to magically know when some group is going to decide to riot?

Is going to the office earlier than a secretary sends a bulletin playing a stupid game?

In this situation, a riot seems more likely to happen than to not happen.

I don't disagree with the legitimately peaceful protesters not deserving to get caught up in something like that, but I don't feel that a lot of the points that you are trying to make are that great. I have never seen a riot so densely packed together that it would be impossible for people to leave, and the police do not immediately open fire with rubber bullets the first time a rock is thrown. People have time and the opportunity to leave, or at least to get away from the more violent rioters

If someone is serious about leaving, they will find a way to leave.

If you find yourself in a position where you are in the middle of a riot and are at risk of getting cracked in the head with a rubber bullet, then you have made a series of bad decisions.

Could possibly be this type of munition. It's fired from a grenade launcher and is skipped off the ground with the intention of hitting the offenders in the lower extremities.

Very similar to what Baboon posted earlier.

I would imagine that all are used....
