Truth is, in any war, there are plenty of bad actors on both sides of the conflict, just as there are good ones on both sides.

People think the war was simply about slavery. It's way much more complicated than that. Quite a few of my ancestors fought and died for the Confederate States of America. Big deal. That, and a dollar, might buy me a cup of coffee.

It's past history, and the South lost the war. Slavery is gone. The states are united again.

I do think that removing monuments, to those who fought on either side is just wrong. Our countries history is just that, history. Good, bad and all it's warts, it our history.

    Axxe55,

Despite what the DYs constantly shout about TWBTS had virtually NOTHING to do with slavery for over 90% of Americans, North & South. = Hardly anyone in the USA in 1860 would have fought a single skirmish to either keep or abolish slavery, much less fight a long/brutal/bloody war over it.

It was about a YEAR AFTER Richmond fell that the war suddenly became a "crusade against slavery".

The thing is, when I go to bed tonight, the Confederacy had lost the war.

When I wake up, the Confederacy will still have lost.

If I'm blasting across the alkaline flats in a jet powered, monkey navigated death car, I can pull out my cell phone and call Jared Kushner... you know, the guy who looks and sounds like the ghost of some kid that was murdered by Mrs. Haversham... "hey Jared, did the Confederates lose the Civil War?"
"Yes they did" he'll answer in that strange soprano he speaks with.
    "What about yesterday, big J?"
    "Still lost. Badly"
"Think they'll still have lost tomorrow?"
    "It's a certainty"

Nice. Just think what's going to happen when the government web crawlers index that gem. Good job.
Make sure the tin foil in your socks is good and tight.

And be sure to have those fillings and crowns removed from your teeth.

    Younggun,

Perhaps he is NOT a "troll" but instead just another naive/clueless person, who has fallen for the HATEFUL LIES that are spewed out of the mouths of RADICAL LEFTIST-REVISIONIST "academia" & the "main-slime media", 24/365.
(That collection of CREEPS, CROOKS & LIARS know the truth but CHOOSE TO LIE.)

    just my OPINION, satx

    jordanmills; All

ACTUALLY, IF you count that flag, which was NEVER an OFFICIAL flag of the CSA, there are at least 30 other such BATTLE FLAGS, of various colors, designs, etc.

The OFFICIAL FLAG that was "missed" was THE STAINLESS BANNER, often called THE JACKSON FLAG because it was FIRST used to cover the coffin of GEN Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson.

When we historians, most of whom were also descendants of CSA soldiers, sailors or marines, selected a CSA-related flag to fly at The Soldier's Monument at the SC Statehouse, that was the flag that the committee selected as it was a SERVICEMAN's flag, that was best-loved battle flag of the CSA's forces.
(Readers should also know that every group represented on the SC Monuments Committee, including The Urban League, NAACP & The SC A-A Pastor's Committee APPROVED of the CSA Battle Flag being flown PERMANENTLY at the Soldier's Monument. - SO MUCH for the HONESTY of the SC Governor & other politicians, when "the national press" complained!!)

Personal Note: I was selected to be on "The Sub-Committee on flags" because I was a Native American/Amer-Indian, as well as a historian.

Axxe55, I agree with in your post. We need to remember, "For those who forget history are condemned to repeat it", George Santayana.

We all need to remember just how costly own Civil War was in the loss of lives and destruction of property. Families against families. Neighbors against neighbors.

Look at the former Yugoslavia after Tito.

We have issues that we need to fix real quick. The issues are complicated once again.

    To All,

People who want SIMPLE answers to complex historical questions, like "What were the causes of TWBTS?", are ACCURATEY called: SIMPLETONS.

History is COMPLICATED, MESSY & often difficult to explain to persons who either WILL NOT LISTEN or who CHOSE TO DENY FACTS.

FUN FACT: The Confederate States Marine Corps was ALWAYS desegregated by race/religion/national origin & about 1 in 4 CS Marines were BLACK MEN.
OTOH, the USMC finally accepted a FEW Black Marines in early 1943.

    To All,

NOT so FUN FACT: About 6 months before his death, GEN Sherman was asked by a reporter from the NY Daily News, "General did your troops free a great number of slaves during your famous 'March to the Sea'??"

Sherman laughed loudly & said, "Oh, indeed we did. We freed a great MANY slaves from being ALIVE."

    The Dan,

SOONER OR LATER, at least one of us GIs, whether active, reserve or retired, are going to "sue the pants off of" the various military forces for VIOLATION OF OUR CIVIL RIGHTS under the 1st Amendment & the SCOTUS will likely strike such bans DOWN.

Since the US Courts say that Americans are FREE to burn our US Flag, it (to be consistent) also MUST order that individuals MAY NOT be prohibited from displaying the CSA's flag.
