According to the law the way it is written if you do not know they are prohibited you are fine to sell to them.

So if you list it and ask no questions of the buyer you can not KNOW he is prohibited so you are fine to sell to him.

You are more than welcome to make it more complex than that. The more complex you make it the smaller your group of buyers become.

some things that prohibit a person

    being a felon
being under 18 and buying a handgun from a private party
not being a resident of the state
    Excellent post!

No, the group of buyers stays exactly the same. It's all people to whom I can lawfully sell that firearm. I'm not liable if someone fools me into thinking they're in that group when they are not, but I don't want to be completely oblivious and sell to a violent felon.

Well, that could be a bit problematic since felons don't have "felon" tattooed on their forehead. And felons can get a TDL. And they have been know to lie on occasion. So how is one to avoid selling to a felon? Will you run a background check on the seller?

Judge him by his looks? Some nasty felons look like the harmless guy next door. And some law abiding citizens look pretty tough.

Apparently without knowing where the OP resides (no such info on his/her profile page) you answer "No." to this question: "Are there laws that I need to know, forms that need to be filled out, etc?".

Then you add "...as long as you have no reason to believe the buyer is prohibited". What does prohibited mean? If the buyer is prohibited (whatever that means), is that due to a law, maybe one of which a gun seller would need to have awareness? Just curious and asking for a friend who is a potential first time seller and who has no clue.

His profile says he lives in Katy (Houston area).

A good question to ask, "Are you legally allowed to own a firearm?"

"Legally allowed"? It's a right you're born with. Now, someone can be "legally prohibited" because of their own actions and violating the law, and there's some pretty healthy debate about whether that prohibition should even be a thing, but "legally allowed" is not a phrase that should be used with human rights.

Requirement is just to ask, make effort to determine.
    Anybody could be lying.

Anybody could be lying. I would also make sure that I was not alone during a sale as one way to find out that you are dealing with a felon is he pulls his gun and robs you of yours.
Yep, meet in a public place with good visibility. Be aware of what is going on around you. Carry.

The More complex you make it as in
    BOS
    asking to copy down info
asking to see a form of ID.
    Stool sample

Each one of the items above will drop the number of people willing to deal with you and your firearm. And each thing you add that is not required by law will keep making the pool of buyers smaller.
