I have a CZ455 heavy bull barrel, laminate thumbhole stock with Barska scope that is the most accurate rimfire I have ever owned... 17HMR. Much more accurate than any of the 22LR or 22WMR I have owned.

I get that. But I already have a Savage M93 in 17 HMR, that I did a lot of work on. It's deadly accurate.

I want to try with a 22 WMR now.

A good barrel with adequate rifling, any of those would work for what you want. Heavy barrel would work better.
Personally, I have found that even on a cheapo .22lr like the Savage markii, you can cut groups nearly in half by free floating the barrel and bedding the action in the stock. That and good glass.

Doing some research a few years ago, I think I can use a Ruger M77/22 barrel as donor if I want to replace the barrel. I might have to do some trim work on the lathe to make it work, but I think it's very possible.

If you notice, I never said there wasn’t a tack driving accurate 22 WMR.. its just I’ve never owned or seen one...lol
I’m sure they exist ..I think..
If one ever did, it might be a CZ...they make a fine rifle.

My Savage 17 HMR B 17 FV is a great rifle and as accurate with a 17 HMR as the west Texas wind will allow you to be...lol

and since it's a rim-fire, that means factory ammo, and I would probably want to feed it he best ammo for best accuracy.

okay, the floor is open for discussion!
How could anyone tell you "best ammo for best accuracy" for a custom built rifle? Build the rifle and test various brands of ammo to discover which is best in your custom built rifle with lord knows what kind of barrel and rifling.

Glenn, this isn't my first rodeo. Please read my other posts on this thread. Don't cherry pick my comments please.

I put this project in his head years ago when I decided to put a heavy barrel on my LH Savage 93GL 22 mag.
Savage offered a heavy barrel in RH,but not LH. They also wouldn't sell me a HB/LH action by itself. So,After doing some research,I found out that I could use a barrel for a Ruger 77/22 mag. Just need to lengthen and turn the barrel down a tad in order for it to fit the Savage action, and set the headspace.
I bought a Green Mountain SS fluted heavy barrel for a Ruger 77/22M,and went to work. Had my machinist cut the barrel to fit the action,I had to do the final fitting to set the headspace, then I sanded out the barrel channel on the stock, sealed the wood, and reassembled the gun.

I've got several more types of ammo to test, but so far it shoot's a couple pretty damn good. These are 5 shot groups at 100 yards, the grid on the target is 1/4" squares.

Yes that rifle was in many ways the inspiration for the project I want to do.

If I can achieve only half the accuracy that Hillbilly got with his, I'll be more than pleased.

That is pretty impressive at 100 yards

I actually got the opportunity to shoot that rifle a while back when he brought it over to the house. We were ringing steel (12"x12")at 150 yards with that rifle!

Hillbilly is a better shot than me by a bunch, but even I never missed with that rifle! A joy to shoot.

That's a great idea, but the choice of caliber is not the best. Instead of .22 magnum, I'd go with .17HMR. I tried to shoot .22 Mag in matches at 200 and had limited success. The .17HMR is a real winner!

Friend Bonnie and I shot Marlin 917V rifles that cost less than $200 in NRA matches at 200 yards. I shot the only PERFECT (500/500) score of my life at 200 yards with a cheap Tasco scope from a bipod. Bonnie shot a 499/500 at 200 and we both shot High Master scores at every match!

    full?d=1498342252.jpg

The pit crews marked our shots with painted golf Tees and our next shots frequently splattered those golf Tees. It's a tradition for the pit crews to bring the hammered markers back to the shooters. We have a whole collection of them!

    .17HMR ........ it's unbeatable at 200 yards!

Does anyone actually read the previous posts I have posted?

I already have a wonderfully accurate Savage M93 in 17HMR.

Have already done the 17HMR. I want to build a 22WMR now.

Well you seemed to see well enough to read the thread title . And it wasn't directed only at you. Quite a few others can't seem to read the posts I wrote either.

I already have a 17HMR, so I have no need or want to build another one.

You have a reading comprehension problem don't you? I have no plans on using the rifle for hunting. Not the intended purpose of the project. Key word, project build!

I can see why so many people have you on ignore now!

What an odd and bitter demeanor you radiate.

You seem to have a reading comprehension problem as well.

Start your own thread then. I am trying to gather specific knowledge and information, related to what I posted. It has nothing to with hunting.

On second thought. Do whatever you want to. I'm done with this thread. Too many idiots who can't read simple English, cluttering it up with nonsense. Enjoy yourselves.

Well I'd be interested to see what you decide on. Never done a bolt action build, so I'm curious how it goes. Just start with a whole rifle and take it apart and replace pieces or buy a stock, receiver, bolt and barrel, etc
