Old? Haha!I miss the Armadillo World Headquarters and the motorcycle race at the coliseum (?) on the river as part of the Aqua Fest. Run what you brung. It was like what the 24 Hours of Lemons is now.
Before anyone says it, yes I know that means that I am old.
I went into Austin today for the first time in about a month. The panhandlers were all wearing masks
lol no... The only thing I'd ever be willing to give any of them is a job, and I've never seen one asking for that.Did you tell them to stand back at least six feet and you would throw them some change?
I will give them money if they have a dog. Has to be their dog. You can tell the ones that feed and care for their dogs before feeding themselves. I see it as making sure the dog eats.lol no... The only thing I'd ever be willing to give any of them is a job, and I've never seen one asking for that.
Once I was in a downtown area with a group for a tour. Since we were early we went to a nearby fast food place and en route we were approached by a panhandler. He asked for money to buy food because he had not eaten in days. I said he was in luck because we were going to buy breakfast and I would buy it for him. He declined preferring cash. I offered to buy him two breakfasts. Again, he declined and even began to demand cash. I told him I would be remiss if I just gave him cash which he might use for drugs. He said he was not a addict just a drunk. After I told him, alcohol was a drug too he just cussed me out and walked off.
This was over 25 years ago but not in Austin. It was across the street from the J. Edgar Hoover building - FBI HQ - in Washington, DC. But I have a $20 that says I would have the same result in Austin, especially if I offer them Goya foods.

Don't feel bad one of the Panhandlers on 71 was asking for money to buy a beer. One of our foreman offered him a Keystone which he refused.....Once I was in a downtown area with a group for a tour. I know what a snob!Wow! So choosy to turn down a free beer?
I know what a snob!
Stillwater BBQ in Abilene, kept a tub of beer on ice by the entrance. "Free Beer, Take One." In a review of Stillwater, a lady complained about the selection of free beer. Stillwater amended the sign to the effect of "don't be like so and so (the lady who complained) and complain about the free beer. Be like Bob and enjoy a free beer."Wow!
