I did not know that a NRA membership was required to join the TSRA. But it would not surprise me since the TSRA is owned by the NRA.
I understand that the TSRA and the NRA are closely aligned. It's my understanding, though, that The TSRA is supported financially by it's 34,000 members. Please advise how it's owned by the NRA.

I've been a LIFE/Endowment member of NRA since <1970 & the TSRA since 1977 but no longer send them $$$$$.

IF/WHEN WLP leaves forever, they will get more of my money.

    yours, satx

It’s been a while, but I recall open carry being supported by the TSRA lobby. That was five or so years ago I think, so will certainly defer to your statement. I strongly support the TSRA because of the great work that they do involving firearm safety education, youth hunting and shooting activity sponsorship, college scholarships, promoting women’s involvement in the shooting sports, competition sponsorship, etc.. Certainly no organization behaves perfectly, but in my opinion, the TSRA does a lot of good for firearms enthusiasts in Texas.

Someone likes to rewrite history, it seems - since we strongly supported OC, and managed to get a bill sponsored in BOTH chambers - which, unfortunately, Strickland was unable to do. Frankly, we'd have been happy w/either bill, but without support in the Senate, Strickland's bill was DOA. We have been supporting UNLICENSED carry for a while, now - but trying to get the support of the senate has been a challenge. We'll continue those efforts, despite what others might say.
Bonnen apparently made a strong story up (I think most of us remember it), which was proved out to be untrue by the body cams of the Troopers that day. Like it or not, the name of the game in Austin is politics - and until such a time as the VOTERS (yeah - YOU and I) send pro-2nd representatives to Austin, it's going to be an uphill battle.

It was DOA BECAUSE of y'all... so stop the revisionist history yourselves. I had friends who were grass-roots driving to Austin to testify and personally lobby. Why didn't your people co-sponsor Stickland's bill?

Because the verbiage in it was flawed. There's also the matter of Strickland having gotten cross-wise with Bonnen, who made NO bones about it never making it to the floor. What EVERYONE needs to realize is that there's a game played every session, and it'll continue to be played until we get REAL conservative, Pro-2nd legislators in Austin.
We can sit around and beat on each other - or finally realize that the REAL problem is sitting in those house chambers. But as long as they can keep us fighting amongst ourselves, they come out clean.

At least you admit a reason. Flawed or not you should have pressured them to support it regardless.

Next week when my membership expires I am definitely renewing with the NRA> I am also going to join the TSRA and FPC. I will look more into GOA in the future.
