    Hello, all!

I've been in central Texas for about 6 years now, and want to get back into shooting. Long time gun owner, NRA Life member. Not a member of TSRA but will be soon. Also need to get my LTC.

Ironically, with the dang quarantine I am working from home and have unofficial flex time, which gives me the opportunity to get caught up on stuff. I finally decided to rip the bandaid off and convert from .40 to 9x19; boy did I pick the wrong year to buy a bunch of guns and ammo!

When I lived in Virginia, I had a "basement FFL" who was great to work with (and in that metro area, the LGSes were pretty lousy). I haven't bought a new gun in decades, are "basement FFLs" still a thing?

    Howdy and welcome to TGT.
I'll let the others answer the FFL question, but can tell you they were still a thing in WA state recently. Won't help you much here...

Welcome, Import. You're in the wrong place, though. You should be out at the meet. Seriously, if you can drop everything and head there right now, you'll meet some good folks from this board. You don't even have to bring a firearm just find the guys and I'm sure someone will let you shoot something.

If not, catch the next one.

ETA: You're about an hour away.

Shoot! I have other fish to fry today, so I'll have to catch the next one. Many many thanks for alerting me to the meets thing, I'm still rummaging around the board.

It's typically done twice a year.
Twice a year are the big ones. The one going on today is an extra, let's-get-outta-the-house meet.

Once the beer flu is in the rear window, Import, you should know that there are lunches and informal get-togethers all over the state, all the time. Check the Hometown sub-forum for more info.

    Ah, you're right, my bad.

The location is what got me confused.
