Lots of things are rule of law without “legislative process”. I try not to get worked up over all of them. But honestly, I feel the whole mask wearing should be based on social pressure, rather than from threat of fine or force.

Looking back, the closure seems silly, as we had so few COVID patients. If he dropped those restrictions back on the hospital, I’d have to settle in for another round of firings, but probably wouldn’t be as bad as it seems the patients are back in the hospital. The TMB can already suspend your license if they find your behavior inappropriate.

I understand your position. For me, that’s pretty ambivalent about 244 years of codified and normative behavior for governing in America.

It’d be similar to the President of the Texas Medical Board writing a memo granting all Chiropractors a full medical license across the board because of social pressure.

Social pressure is the same way we discourage teen pregnancy, drug use, drunk driving, unsafe handling of firearms, etc.

Y’all act like you don’t participate constantly. Hell, most of y’all use it on this forum to discourage people you don’t like from posting.

Social pressure is just a fact of life. We see it everywhere, including in this forum.

I'd much rather have that than threats of fines, jailing and closing down businesses.
If enough people stand together and carry on like none of it is happening it will go away. People lay down too quickly these days!

Dunno. I never quite categorized morals and ethics as "social pressure".
    It is.
How many times have most, if not all of us, have said "you can not legislate ethics and morals"?
Societal pressure is the only reason we have laws at all. The difference is in the "why" and "how". When the many agree that it is for the betterment of all, we call it a "law".
What they are doing is using manipulated information to force their fear on the many.
Societal and peer pressure guide more of our lives daily than most people realize.

Morals and ethics do not have their source in society (people), but rather in God. Significant difference.

Society seems to have lost touch with Christianity these days due to the subversion of morals pushed by social media, music and movies. Too many broken homes and lost souls.

For many, many years Americans generally accepted the Judaeo/Christian values/ethics as American values/ethics, even though not all were "religious". Sadly, about half of American now rejects those values.

Without common values, I do not see how America can remain united.

Judeo/Christian is like saying oil and water but we don’t have to get into that rabbit hole.
Lots of people lost their path.

For many, many years Americans generally accepted the Judaeo/Christian values/ethics as American values/ethics, even though not all were "religious".

Sadly, the only part of the Judeo/Christian ethic embraced by today's left is guilt. The left is definitely clinging to their Catholic guilt / Jewish guilt and it what we now know as "white guilt".

That's the entire reason why white liberals keep screwing around with minorities. Minorities are now laughing all the way to the bank, having finally realized they can cash in on it.

IMO, it's definitely been a downgrade to our society to lose our closeness to the full ethics of our Founders, but if we're moving away, at least we can hope that we'll soon move away from white guilt, too. Probably long after the left has destroyed this nation, but maybe we'll get lucky.

    Careful guys.
    Religious discussions are not allowed.
Like most topics, a toe across the line might just "raise an eyebrow".
I think this is getting a bit further across.
