Hopefully they will account for everyone and all will be in good health.

On another note: Seems to me, as uninformed as I may be, that the Navy has not learned much since Pearl Harbor. All their ducks in a row like that - even Elmer J. Fudd could wipe em out.

Everyone’s already accounted for, a few injuries (none critical).

It’s kind of tough to not park then close together...gotta have harbors that are suitable, security, support infrastructure, etc.

Those holes in the flight deck may not buff out.
BHR has the modified flight deck to withstand F-35 VTOL ops...that was a hot fire to do that kind of damage.

Saw that last night. From what I was reading that area is not actually the flight deck. Supposedly the flight deck is in good shape as it had been reinforced. The condition of the rest of the ship is supporting that flight deck is suspect.

I can’t imagine that ship ever sailing again. Between actual repairs and also the time and money in ensuring the structural integrity, it will be faster and cheaper to build another.

I’m sure this will be listed as a COVID death and funds will be printed in next stimulus.

Yep....Covid-19 is highly flammable. If only the ship had been wearing a cloth mask....

    Probably so.

Even steel that may not appear melted can have been heated to a degree that the heat treat of the steel has been altered.

If it will cost less to build a new one then repair it you can bet the Navy Will Repair it.
I think time, appropriations and to build a new, would be the predominant factor over cost depending on need. But that may be mute depending on damage the fire did to steel tempering and structural stability.

More than just supposed. These are pics of the forward superstructure where the bridge is located - mostly made of aluminum for weight savings. According to reports, the fire reached temperatures well over 1000 degrees - more than enough to soften and sag the aluminum.

The radar mast in the lower pic on the right is supposed to stand straight up.

The coverage I've been reading at https://www.thedrive.com/the-war-zone is pretty well done, and has minimal conjecture with a lot of info directly from the Navy. The BHR was in port for overhaul and crews had just about wrapped things up. The fire suppression system was disabled. And they're saying the fire started in a vehicle storage area that was being used to store construction debris, cardboard trash and used rags. Of course, depending on what those rags were used for, different chemicals might come in contact and react with each other...which may be the case here.
