I guess I missed the "state of emergency" in Texas when last year there were over 3,500 deaths from the flu.

Here’s an extensive study on masks. There is no scientific reason to wear masks. They are essentially a placebo.
    https://web.archive.org/web/2017051...atures/face-masks-dont-work-revealing-review/

“It should be concluded from these and similar studies that the filter material of face masks does not retain or filter out viruses or other submicron particles. 11,31 When this understanding is combined with the poor fit of masks, it is readily appreciated that neither the filter performance nor the facial fit characteristics of face masks qualify them as being devices which protect against respiratory infections.”
I study the actual science not what the news tells me.

My wife's sister lives in Kentucky and she and her husband watch CNN for at least 10 hours a day. She called the wife the other day to ask if she knew that thousands of Texas teenagers were dying from the virus.

Of course, this same couple goes to Harbor Freight and buys 5-6 boxes of disposable gloves every month. They are the epitome of stupid when it comes to anything political or national because they never think for themselves and they believe 100% of what the see on CNN.
    Sad.

I know some folks who normally have good common sense. You can discuss the virus hysteria with them, they think about and agree the virus is just "another flu".

Then five minutes later they will be saying "everyone needs to wear their masks and stay safe." :banghead:

According to a little research I just did, the average number of deaths in Harris County alone in 2015 were 25,342 a year or or just over 69 a day, not even the daily Texas death toll from Covid on average, so why is there such a morgue shortage???
    You skeptical rascal, you.

I bet you could be a conservative.

    TX OMFS,

Do you think it probable that we'll be mandated to wear a mask, stay 6' apart into perpetuity?

Medically I don't think it will be necessary in perpetuity but governments don't like letting go of power. Changing things will probably require voting out some of the dictator wannabes instead of waiting on them to relinquish power.

Assuming the base rate remains at 69, if we add about 50 a day we're increasing the numbers by 72%. I think the extra deaths on top of the presumably unchanged base rate is the issue (if there is an issue).

My understanding is the hospitals are preparing for the potential need for more morgue space, not that they actually need more space right now. Better to be ready than start stacking bodies while you try to find a truck.

Masks aren't 100% effective and they aren't 0% effective. I wear a mask because I know it's not 0% effective. The mask may keep me from getting sick which keeps my business open. Wearing a mask doesn't mean you want totalitarianism.

Also, the cloth masks suck. I wore them for the first time the other day. Surgical masks are much more comfortable and probably more effective. Still, I don't think cloth masks are 0% effective.

If, like me, you want to wear a mask in order to try and improve your chances then I'd highly suggest getting surgical masks of some kind. Level III masks are the best or the KN95 masks if you can find them. I haven't gone all the way to wearing a respirator or N95 in public because I don't think the risk is that high. Straps to tie around the head are more comfortable long term than ear loops. Ear loops are more convenient.

Harris County is nowhere near 50 fatalities per day for COVID. They’ve only reported 458 total COVID death over 123 days, which is less than 4 extra per day. The worst day so far has been 105 extra state-wise, with the average being well below 50 statewide.

If there’s going to be a problem it’s the logistics depending on how long the cadavers hang out in cold storage...if they’ve got to wait for a COVID test to be completed and returned prior to going to the funeral home, that’s gonna create a logjam.

It’s simply appalling what lies are told on MSDNC, CNN, ABC “news”. I get stuck watching it at work and I just laugh to myself. I show my coworkers (“Medical professionals”) actual studies and they just say it can’t be right that’s not what they say on...
