    Gunz are icky.
Thanks for the history. I had heard bits of that, not the dragoon parts at all though.

I definitely agree with the last sentence get both. The walkers I've seen aren't really that much. I saw one NIB for something like $390

Yeah, the repro's all sell for right around $400.
Once in a very blue moon you might see one pop up on the used market but its pretty rare.
One note about these. They shoot way high. I've heard the original guns were regulated to 100yds. So the repro's front sights are too short and they'll shoot high at more normal pistol distances. Think like 12"-14" high at 50ft. This is normal. You can go thru the hassle of getting a new front sight or just learn to aim different. You'll just have to shoot yours enough to figure out where its hitting.
Cleaning is a whole other world on these and needs to be discussed in detail at another time. I'll just say this:the better you clean them the Moonpie Way the better they'll get. LoL.
Leather for both of them is available.
Components are easily. Caps, powder, ball, lubed wads.
Real BP can be difficult to source locally. I order mine on-line.
I do recommend the Remington brand caps as they seem to be made from a harder/thicker metal than the CCI brand. Thus they stay together better and the bits don't get down into the innards of the action nearly as bad as the CCI caps do.
Roundballs are readily available over the counter. Casting your own is about the easiest bullets to make. You need to use pure lead as alloy makes the balls too hard for proper bore obturation. Poor accuracy and difficult loading.

Sheeesh….it'll be easier to show you than explain it on here.

I noticed that watching a few videos today, in particular in the Hickok45 video about them from a few years ago. I can probably live with the weird hold under. On the plus side I can just point and aim at 100 yards.

You'll just have to show me after C&B Range Day

    Real BP

I'd probably just order that stuff online anyway. Never have time for brick and mortar.

On the subject of caps, I'm guessing the Remington are better because it doesn't jam up the cylinder quite as often. I saw Hickok45 fighting with his jamming up in that same video.

I could probably do something in August if we can figure out a good day for people to go.

Makes me also want to do casting. I love metallurgy. I would be hesitant to do it without setting up a pretty well designed area for the task far away from the kiddos, and probably a back stock of filters for my respirator.

I find the science behind it fascinating.

Safety and an area to cast have been my biggest hangups as well. Something I'll be researching.

Casting for muzzle loaders is really easy and I had always been given the lead from my old gun clubs airgun pellet traps. I used to have good sources for free lead and loved hard casting for .357-158 and 356-124 TC, as well as .429-240 with gas checks. At some time I had a two ton swaging press and made hollow based 148gr WC which I coated and then sized.

I do not find the time - nor a good lead source - these days for the great hobby of making my own bullets anymore but still have most of my molds and equipment.

How far are they reasonably accurate? How bad is the cleanup on the revolver?
I never used them at more than 10 feet or so and I was never looking for accuracy. As for cleanup, a brush was enough, IOW, not a problem at all.

Cool. I got a couple thousand rounds of wax bullets and about 50 casings all prepped for the shotgun and large pistol primers when I got the gun. He threw it in for free. Maybe I'll run some of them today.

I'd consider maybe doing the regular competitions, but definitely not going to be doing fast draw. It looks fun, but not my thing. Probably just going to use these 209 shotgun primers ready cases for doing silly things like popping balloons with my daughter. Honestly, those "holsters" are what detract me from it. It's just a steel bucket on their leg

They aren't that bad. They only thing different on my QD holster is a small flap on the bottom to direct a misfire away from your leg - I'm ok with that. Have not tried the balloon deal with these primers only. Have fun with it and be safe. JW

My brother tried the primer and wax bullet thing and he said it was dirty and messy as all get out. Nasty wax and stuff all over everything. I read online about using foam earplugs instead of wax. They work real well and can be used again too. I fire them in my backyard for practice at the fence.

The shotgun primer models are nice in that the primers fit loosely in there. I can stuff ear plugs in 6, load them in the gun and then load the primers. Fire. Dump the shells and primers fall right out. Repeat. I like the foam better than anything hard for this kind of practice. I bought these in bulk (1k). Easy to use, clean, relatively safe, reuseable several times at least.

I don't mind cleaning the wax. It's not any worse than cleaning up after dirty ammo from what I can tell with my one experience cleaning it. Could be the particular wax bullets I'm using.

I took a cardboard box full of bags and rags to use as a catch box, same thing I do with pellet guns, and it catches the wax bullets basically unscathed. They can be reused. The ones that get mutilated from impact on something can be melted and reused though. They also make some high temp wax bullets that probably leave even less of a mess.

Also when I got my six shooter, it can with 38 Special cases for both 209 shotgun primers and large pistol primers all milled out and ready to run. They have enlarged primer pockets so you can drop them in and drop them out, and the flash hole has been enlarged already. Have a dozen of the large primer cases and 50 shotgun primers cases

That's a good idea with the box. In my old house, I had a metal trap in the garage and the wax bullets disintegrated. I haven't set anything up since we moved.. yet...
