Thanks for sharing. Sorry to hear you got a raw deal but hopefully by sharing others will be spared the same problem.

For all it's worth, you may consider filing a complaint with the BBB. And also leaving a review at least on Google. Especially since they have 14 reviews on Google and they're all 5 stars.

Just a thought, might it be possible to go see a class being taught and then make a decision on taking it. Maybe some will let you and some won't. I've never asked.

I doubt anyone would be allowed to audit the class...as the 'ahem' instructor is undoubtedly aware of the quality of the class (subpar) and would be easy for the auditor (if you will) to quickly spot the discrepancy regarding the claim and reality...and not sign up.

    At least at this class...

I think I talked about exactly this happening on another thread when this place was discussed.

The term "tactical" in the name, should have been a huge warning sign.

    $1500 for three days? Seriously?

I have located a company close to where she lives that provideds:

    1.) Outside the home self-defense
    2.) Inside the home self-defense
    3.) Automobile relative self-defense

This is a related lesson I've learned as well. If you take a class with a general title (like "tactical training") it's going to be very beginner-oriented and unfocused.

But a class with a specific title ("low-light / low-vis shooting", or "clearing a structure with a team") will probably be more advanced, and perhaps deliver closer to expectations. If they don't ask for and require some form(s) of shooting references (MIL/LEO experience, competition experience, other classes, etc, etc), they probably aren't a class you'll enjoy unless you are a beginner.

Of course homework must always be done beforehand, there are no guarantees.

But thanks for posting. Threads like this one are common on many gun forums and they are valuable to the entire shooting community for obvious reasons.

At least on what not to spend $1500 on!

Do you have a bald head and a goatee? Do your pants have more than five pockets? Do you have a shower gun? What is your opinion of 10mm as a backup gun caliber? And have you ever made a YouTube video denouncing Paul Harrell?

Doug, you could always take a class from James Yeager. He's one classy dude.
Thanks for the suggestion! After you posted I looked at his course offerings and the courses I saw appeared to target LEO and civilian contractor military units. One of the major hurdles I faced trying to find the right instructor was a facility based issue. Just not that many open gun ranges that provide the ability to have a 180 degree field of fire. Such as a walking drill where you encounter multiple threats from different directions. I’m not suggesting those were simultaneous threats. Kind of hard to describe. But... kinna like walking downtown Austin but with the ability to do live fire drills. For now we’re done with the training. Today was our last day. I’m going to report on our last day but I’m going to post it on a new reply to this thread. I will give a few hints as to how it went. #1... I think the owner of AWATT is either a member here on TGT, monitors this site or had someone inform him of my post. Today was fairly productive.
    Thanks again for the suggestion.
