My CAS shotgun is a 97 Winchester that’s almost 100 yrs old. Finally took it to get reblued (it had 0% blue remaining).

Crazy how time crawls by when you’re waiting on something to get done.

Pics as soon as you get it back! I had my grandfather's 97 (16 ga.) for several years in my early 20's but it was stolen from where I lived while I was at work. It was one of the saddest day of my life!

Are you still going to use it for CAS?

If so, it may slow your transitions down. You won’t want to throw that gun that’s purdier than a two dollar whore down on those tables with nail heads sticking up! :)

Who is doing the work? 97 specialist or just a regular gunsmith who blues?

Place up the road that does mild to wild refinishing/refurbishing. Drakes Fine Sporting Arms.

They quoted pump shotguns and rifles for $160.

I take it the re-blueing got done? If so, any pics?

haven’t gotten it back yet. during the “shut down” the owner called and asked how i was with missing matches etc.

his business is essential, but with school out he couldn’t be working every day (child care, etc).

i told him i wasn’t in any hurry.

Did you have the forcing cone lengthened on this? I've heard of problems with modern shells due to the slightly shorter chamber.

Not with this gunsmith. When I first got it, I dropped a guage into it and the chamber was 2 5/8. So, I had the chamber cut deeper and with that the forcing cone was lengthened and made more gradual.

Ironically, I phoned them up today and it's ready to be picked up.

    Thanks,

When I first got this one, the previous owner gave me a box of 2 1/2” shells (and warned me about running 2 3/4”). Is yours a takedown model as well?

No, solid frame. I've seen a bunch of takedowns in person, never another solid frame.
