'Splain, please............ Aren't all rounds for a specific caliber the same diameter? Or are you talking about mixing and matching different calibers in mags that weren't necessarily designed for it?

It'd be like how a standard ar mag can hold 10 .50 beowulf rounds, or 30 rounds of 5.56

Just out of curiosity, what HANDGUN is capable of that?

When I converted my XDm from .40 S&W to 9mm I used unmodifed .40 S&W mags that came with it. Capacity went from 16 rounds to 19 IIRC. Never had a malfunction.

    In a 13 round .40 s&w glock mag, i can fit 17 rounds of 9mm

    In a 15 round .40 s&w/.357 sig m&p mag, i can get 19 rounds of 9mm

I can't speak to reliability, but they do fit

Check the reliability on those please and let us know how it works. :green:

I want to say i did accidentally use the .40 glock mag in my G19 once. That gun has had zero malfunctions, though it's only got 5k through it. I can't find my notes on it, so I'm just going on memory.

As an experiment i tried a beretta 96 mag in my m9a3. It would occasionally spit an extra round.

You can pretty easily modify metal mags to better hold a smaller round.

Interesting. I don't do .40, 9mm, or Glock. However a good friend recently converted a G23 to 9mm with threaded barrel. I'll see if he still has the the .40 mags and we'll give it go.

I converted my G24 to 9mm. Occasionally, out of sheer inattentiveness, I've loaded 9mm in .40 mags and shot them with no malfunctions. I haven't made a habit of it or ever done it deliberately for testing so I can't say the combination is reliable. I do know, however, that it works sometimes.

Reverting back to when the Clinton gun ban was in effect...

Carry gun would depend on what I was wearing at the time. Just like today, I would carry the biggest gun I can comfortably conceal but probably a commander size 1911. That was my primary back then. Secondary was a S&W J-frame.

Range gun - Full size 1911 in .45acp

This was back when you had to put a few hundred $$ of competent gunsmithing work into a 1911 to make it reliable. Then a few hundred $$ more for decent sights, more $$ for decent safeties, and even more $$ if you wanted it accurate.

Today, I think there are probably better options based on cost and reliability. (Yes, I'm ready for the dog pile). If ammo capacity were limited, I would probably go Glock G36 for carry, G41 for range.
