I need a cross section sampling.
I've been approached about a business venture involving a 1000 yd range in west Tx.

Honestly. How many would drive to Abilene for a day on a long range?
Would on site lodging be a plus? (2days 1 night)
Anything from pistol steel to skeet also included.

    I'm all ears.

It is something I would be interested in. Though, I would not go with any regularity......I think on sight lodging would be tricky.

    Why would lodging be tricky?
I'm thinking scheduled visits. Much like a 2 day hunt.
A decent cabin with a grill and fire pit.

I would gladly participate in a meet or the like there, but wouldn't go on any regular basis.

Too many other options much closer.

I guess I am thinking about how the layout of the range would correspond with the layout of the lodging (safety & insurance reasons). Though acreage would help determine some of that.

    Hmm.

    3 hour drive.

Weekend getaway on a gun range.

I would be interested, and wouldn't mind attempting to make it once or twice a year.

But I have to admit that I'm a cheap skate and might not be willing to pay the reasonable cost of such a weekend. Still, it sounds within my realm of possibility.

    What type of lodging/amenities?

    Any rough ideas on pricing?

    On site instruction?

    Qualification requirements?

(I realize most of that is probably unknown)

    I'm intrigued.

I think it is a great opportunity with a lot of risk involved. I would not likely visit often as I have 2 options within 20 minutes of my location.

Don't got nothin that will go out to 1000 reliably. I'm out, except I might bring some brew and watch. Got a spotting scope.

Interest, Absolutely! Doable, not too often. Being poor limits a lot of my fun time options. Besides the fact that I don't really have anything that can reach out and "make friends" that far away. About 500 yards to 500 meters would be about my accuracy limit.

Please remember, I'm a one handed gimp, and not indicative of the overall interest or consensus

    Caliber limit?

No reason why there would be.
Likely a qualifying round out to 5 or 6 hundred, then it's all yours.
Think billboard size backstop and 4 miles or so to anything damagable beyond that.

Well, I'm really considering swapping scopes now to get more magnification on the .308.

LG showed interest as a way to get me out of the house for a whole weekend.

Guys. I'm not looking for steady, repeat customers.
Just some aficionados who want to make a weekend of it once or twice a year.
A dozen of those guys make it viable. The intermediate distances may see some heavier day use.

Well, that's me then. Although I'm not sure if I'm an aficionado or not. If it's complimentary, it's probably not me

I think that offering intermediate distances will see much more use, but as time goes on and the word gets out, the long range will become a big draw

Narrow draw though. Peeps who have the guns and inclination to shoot 1000 yards are probably few and far between - but they are probably the ones with the moola.
