Can anyone point me in aood holster direction for a 5” 1911? Criteria below:

    - OWB
    - I don’t care about concealment
    - must have level 1 or 2 safety/retention.
    - kydex or plastic (not leather)

I have looked at the Aliengear shapeshift paddle holster but that about the only thing I’ve found.

I have leather holsters (and previously owned a leather holster company) and want a locking option similar to what you’d see in a Safariland. They don’t seem to make anything for 1911 though. I really like the Blackpoint Tactical stuff, but they don’t appear to have any sort of locking mechanism.

Off topic kudo - I'm still wearing a gun belt you made for me - every day for the past five years or so. My favorite belt ever. I wish I'd gotten another one from you.
Man that’s so cool! Love hearing that and thank you. I have a few of those belts still as well

I guess then you are looking for a level 2 (locking) over level 1 (passive).
That’s correct. In theory I’d prefer leather (as per my entrepreneurial history) but I’m not sure about open carrying this guy without some sort of locking mechanism.
And of course I have a gorgeous brown elephant OWB holster for it made by you-know-who.

    Beautiful leather work btw.

Now I would certainly hate to lose my carry 1911, but like pbratton said, I couldn't see it in plastic or kydex. I got a very nice El Paso Saddlery High Slide (certainly not as fancy as yours) that has an adjustable level 1 retention. I'm not going to say it's impossible for it to be taken from behind, but it would be difficult.

By kydex retention, are you talking about something like this?

If so, they offer them for 5” 1911s, with or without rails. I have no experience with Tier1, though, so I can’t say how good or bad they are.

Unfortunately KT-Mech doesn’t make the Duty Akela variant for 1911s, maybe with enough voiced interest they would. The KT Akela still had pretty good adjustable retention, but it’s not a level 2 retention without the duty variant.

I have three KT Mech custom fit holsters and will buy more because they are great.
