It took me almost 50 years, but I finally got me a deer! This hunting stuff could get addicting!

Yep its addictive. When I was able to hunt from about 16 on I spent more time doing that or making money to do that than anything else. I think this year I'm physically able to try a little again. At least some solo camping.

    Nice deer.

No jokes about that poodle wearing deer clothes.

    Sorry couldnt help it.
If you need help disposing of back straps I got an idea or 2.

Nice! So did you shake a bit or were you calm and cool when you pressed the trigger? I’ve killed probably 50 deer in my 55 years. A couple years ago I got the shakes so bad I couldn’t even take the shot. It was the damndest thing. I’d heard about it all my life but it never happened to me until then.

    Tell us about the shot!

I had the rifle sighted in at 100, and when I got to the stand, it was about 75 yards from the feeder so I figured I was all set. Then 2 doe walked out behind me and got to within about 10-15 yards. I was in an elevated box stand, so when I shot I got heart, lungs, and a bit of stomach on the other side. Not ideal, but she went down! It was the first hunt of the weekend, so when I got to the stand I told myself that I wasn’t gonna shoot anything. I didn’t even have my gun loaded when I first saw them behind me. Guess the excitement took over, cuz I loaded a round and squeezed one off! Looking for a hog now, and if a nice enough buck shows his face, then maybe!

Both! Got a friend who takes clients out here during the year to shoot the high dollar exotics on their high fence property and they spend a lot of money, so we get to come out here and stay for 4 days, eat and drink all we want, get 6 hunts on low fence, and we get to shoot a doe and a hog. Costs us $1,000. I may drink that in beer and liquor! It’s $50 for each additional hog if we want or $200 for another doe. Bucks are $1500, whether they are a button buck or a 10 pointer.
