So shortround has moved on from complaining about ammo prices at gun shows (which nobody disputes are high) to complaining about the entrance fee. Personally I don't mind paying $7 or $8 to fondle guns for a couple of hours, but to each his own. Plus, if entrance was free we'd most likely have a large undesirable element showing up.

The last time I remember gun shows being free was NEVER!

If you don't want to go, no one is holding a gun to your head forcing you to go. Quit your bitching!

I share your sentiments exactly. The gun show promoter provides a venue for dealers to sell their wares. It is a flea market of sorts.

The big difference from a flea market, is that I can walk into any gun shop without having to pay a fee.

Dealers pay good money for a table. That alone should satisfy the promoter's greed.

Add insult to injury -- we have to pay for parking.

Who pays for parking at Walmart, Costco, Sam's Club, or any other retail establishment?

    SR,

These shows allow for many guns to be in one place. It provides a little more leverage to the consumer as well to find and create deals. If you want to drive all over town to each gun shop, the fuel will cost you more than the show cost, the drive, and parking combined.

    Gotta put it in perspective.

P.s. You pay for parking at Costco with your membership fees.

I easily get enough enjoyment just looking around that it is worth the cost of admission/parking. And if you look around, there are some great deals to be found. Been wanting a Beretta ARX160 rifle for a couple months. Best price I could find locally was $450 + tax, Buds wants $517 delivered. Found a NIB one last weekend at Saxet for $390, $420 OTD. And this is not the exception, the deals are out there if you look. Plenty of ridiculous prices as well but that makes the hunt fun.

Also enjoy getting to bs with some of the other forum members. Hell, even majormadmax is tolerable most days!

Yes, I do. I think if admission was free there would be a lot more gang banger and wannabee types showing up.

Several years ago, the City of Austin got the bright idea to eliminate the fare on all the buses, in hopes of encouraging ridership. They had to scrap the idea six months later because crime and thuggery on the buses increased almost immediately.

this is a fact very, very rarely do I buy anything (it does happen....when the boss gives me my allowance) but the great fellowship with friends while looking at firearms is what I really enjoy and look forward to. If I happen to see something I cant live without......well that is the icing on the cake. Plus Mike is a big creampuff....:roflfunny:

I will be there to pick up my Texas flag lower from Runnerrunner guns!

We will be there with a nice sampling from our website (uppers, lowers, triggers, etc). Three tables I believe.

Some people are talking about costs. Vendors pay for each table they get. And people pay to get in the door. Besides the facility there are always police who stay overnight at the shows on Friday and Saturday night. There is also staff and security during the show. There are a lot of expenses (think insurance) that aren't even being mentioned.

Sometimes you can get a better deal at a local store or online. Sometimes you can score a deal at the show. When I go to a show I'm not attending I look at is entertainment. $8 is pretty cheap for hours of walking around.

And like someone else pointed out you get to see a much wider variety of items then you would in just one store. There is always historical stuff, modern weapons and everything in between. If you spent a day trying to see all of this in local stores you would spend way more money in gas traveling from place to place trying to see it all.

One of the things we will have at out table is a whole bunch of AR triggers built out with different grips. These will be there so you can test and feel how each trigger feels when you pull it and how different grips feel. It's something unique that we do that you don't get at a local store and something you can't measure online. Rarely do you get the opportunity to test a bunch of triggers and compare them side by side. It's those unique things that gun shows allow you to see.

I enjoy gun shows as a vendor because I get to see and talk guns with like minded people. It's fun for me. But to each, their own.

    My two cents.
