Also, go through the historical ones. Not only is it interesting but encouraging as states change.

Interesting.

I think Cruz has a better chance of winning Pennsylvania than Florida. Of course, that's a net loss of 9 votes.

It's hard for me to see a Republican, especially a legitimate unapologetic Tea Party Republican, winning Ohio any time soon. That's a loss of 18. On the other hand, I could see places like Oregon and New Hampshire getting swept up in a quasi-libertarian moment. Maybe. But that only gets you 11.

With the recent gun control garbage, Colorado might be poised to flip red. That gets you 9.

There's no reason in the world Nevada should even be close to blue. I do not get that. (this isn't a shot at you, that's how it's been and I don't understand it).

Bottom line, you have to win Florida and you can't screw up anything else, at all. I can't imagine how a truly limited government message is going to sell in a state where the median age is like 41 or something. And when you start pandering to Florida retirees, you lose fiscal conservatives elsewhere.

Man, this is depressing. This is why I agreed with the discussion on the other thread. Just forget the presidency for a while and get an iron grip on both house of Congress.

I agree on focusing on controlling Congress or at least getting more obstructionists in there.

What exactly is the message going to be for Florida? Five seconds after a Republican suggests any change to social security or Medicare, the Dem's will be running non-stop "throw Grandma off the cliff" ads. If the GOP seriously wants to have any hope of winning Florida, they will have to respond with some kind of assurances that they don't intend to touch either program. And when they do, fiscal conservatives in other states will once again feel sold out and start up the "lesser of two evils, I'm staying home" drumbeat. Now, it probably won't matter in Texas as we will still stay red, but maybe enough stay home or enough swing voters get turned off in places like Nebraska, Tennessee, North Carolina, or Pennsylvania to turn/keep them blue. At minimum, it undermines your message and makes it harder for down-ballot R candidates to claim the fiscal conservative ground.

You're damned if you do, damned if you don't. That's why I say forget the presidency. Nominate the hardest line conservative you can find and let him or her blaze the trail, regardless of the consequences. You'll lose the presidency, at least for now, but you'll better establish your identity for the future and you'll help solidify your power in Congress.

While I agree with the fact that we really need to concentrate on winning the House AND Senate, we should run a strong candidate like Cruz or Paul. Remember folks, Reagan didn't win his first time running. What he did do was set the stage for the following election, which he won. He put the ideas out there, and while most didnt agree at the time, after Carter got through pulling an Obama on the country they were quick to go the way of Reagan.

Once the FED starts tapering quantitative easing the economy will contract, stock market will fall and unemployment will go up.

This will be the turning point where the socialists will seek further expansion or the right can really reform things and not just go along with socialism "lite".

As far as winning Florida, its all about motivating voters to get out. That can be done through message, encouragement or force. "Grandma get in the car you are going to vote or im going to hide your eyeglasses!"
