    Yesterday evening in Cibolo

Pictures like this bring back many fond memories of fields long ago.

Big fluffy white clouds in a sky of deep blue .
Hum of crickets and cicada in the distance.
Clatter and clicking of grasshoppers flying about.
    Butterflies moving about.
The smell of the plants and earth in the afternoon heat.
Sometimes the rumble of a far away thunderstorm.
The race of heart when the gentle Whistle of the Wing is heard.
The excitement of the sight of the birds speeding by.
    Thumps on the shoulder.
    Laughs at the miffed shot.
The walk out to gather the downed bird hoping you remembered exactly where it fell.
    Feathers. Feathers everywhere.
How tasty grilled dove is wrapped with a little bacon, jalapeno, and cream cheese.

That’s how I lose them. Kill one and have another one flying in, blast that one, then can’t find either.
I carry a flag (red bandana) so when I get to where the bird SHOULD be, I drop the flag, then continue searching - or shoot @ that 2nd bird.

I have 2 orange plastic flags that are tied to bolts so I can toss them. Of course I barely ever remember to use them.

I finally got out this afternoon. Was nice. Shot seven birds, found six.
    Was a great afternoon.

The trees in town are full of doves, damnit! They go to a populated area to stay safe. Smart buggers!

I have heard of tree huggers putting out deer feeders to keep the deer away from hunters.

Heck, just take your shotgun and drop a few of them shi....err ....city doves!!! Use a 4x4 and do a drive by....you'll be my hero. I might even visit you in jail.

They've been terrible this year. Both around the house and nests in the mesquites. Wonder if that had some effect on the early season hunting.
