Awesome. All the people at my lease apparently decided opening day was it. Just me and the dog now. Doesn’t suck.

    Report: Well, well. . . . .

Killed 4 first day, 0 second day. Literally couldda done much better in my own back yard.
While at El Campo, I did get to visit my favorite gun shop "R&M Firearms", where I did find a Ruger PCC in 9mm Luger. So, I'm happy, now back home. At least "Beau" the Wonder Dog got to do a few retrieves.

I ran into a Game Warden in Lampasas yesterday afternoon and asked if he had checked in on any bird hunters and he verified what I have seen, there aren't many birds compared to years past.
I've seen more doves in my neighborhood than the fields.

All my El Campo Friends said that there were plenty birds a week earlier. Everything I saw were white-wing. Here in Louisiana, most of our white-wings have disappeared, except for my immediate neighborhood. A neighbor has a "sanctuary" in his large bayou-side home yard.

We'll see as the season's first cold front approaches.

The birds weren't flying much north of Hutto. Previous week I saw a lot in town, I guess they stayed there. I got 12 from Wed to Saturday. Some better shooters than me got more in other areas but never their daily limit like they usually get. I'll wait for a cold front to hopefully push some birds South before I try again.

Much slower than last year. The freeze took its toll. We had a good hatch, but there just weren't enough nesting pairs to go around. Word is counts are way down in the north. Not expecting a flood of migrating birds. Still hella fun though!

Who else is seeing the effects of the big freeze? 80% of north zone birds we shot show frostbite damage.

I ain't spoke to one person who had a good hunt so far this year.
I recall walking the pasture last winter , just after the big freeze. Lots of piles of bird feathers. I guess the varmints did ok.
