I've been loosely following UPRR's restoration of their Big Boy steam locomotive #4014 for the last few years as well as the various video's of it running now that is operational. Yesterday, it came through College Station along with 4141, Bush 41's locomotive. Very cool to see this magnificent machine in person. Here's a quick video of it. There's lots of videos of it on YT for those interested in seeing more of this piece of history.

Looked like they had one or two sleeper cars - guess those were reserved for ‘big wigs’ with Union Pacific on this tour around the southwestern U.S.?

@SidewaysTA I can’t get the video to play. Where is that taken?

Did you go to the public viewing? How crowded was it?
It's at the fm 159 crossing about 10 miles south of College Station.

I didn't get a chance to go to the viewing unfortunately.

Im gonna say you didnt miss anything.

In Jewett I estimate 3-4000 people and the train ran 30 min late on that stop. Dunno if that was because of the people or not.

In Palestine there were at LEAST 10K people to welcome it into the yard. Might've been more than that. It was unreal how many folks were there.

Yeah, the viewing here was on campus and i figured it would be a madhouse especially with the small parking lot.

There were a lot of people, but I definitely don't think it was that many in Palestine. I had no issues walking around and getting a front row view. The train is so big though, that to actually get a decent picture of it, I had to walk back about 70 feet.

I’m not a “train guy” but I’ll have to admit, it does look impressive - easy to see why they called them “big boys”! Little history I read on it, says it was originally placed into service the month Japan bombed Pearl Harbor.
