I'm hunting for an overpowered revolver...

Either a S&W in 460 Magnum, preferably 8.38" that I'll look for a rifle to pair with, or a Magnum Research 45-70 to go with my Marlin guide gun.

So if any picked one up and shot it enough to decide it's not for them, take it out of the safe and give it a chance to get out in the daylight!

    Thanks

My .500 S&W magnum revolver is overpowered and exciting. That being said, I haven't shot it in over a year since every trigger pull is 2-3 bucks a pop.

    I'd go with the 460 S&W.
Gives you the option of lighter cartridges(45colt, etc) in the same gun.

    Those BFR's are honking huge!

I want to stay with something that uses bullets that I already use/reload for that reason... I don't have anything in .50 cal.
.452 or .458 boolits I already play with.

Something about a huge single action that takes the same round as my lever gun is appealing... and I could work up some custom 45-70 shorts if I wanted something meek, even shotshell rounds for no-legged critters.

The 460 could also get a moon clip job done on it, then take 45ACP, 45 Super, 460 Rowland and 45 Raptor in addition to the rimmed cartridges it does natively.

The correct answer is Get Both.

You could or just get some 45 auto rim brass to use 45 ACP type rounds.

Nothing else there has anything else to offer over what the gun already shoots.

Appears to me you’ve already answered your own question. You just need someone to give a matching 2nd opinion. So I’ll be your huckleberry. Me personally, I’d go with the 45-70 since I already have a Marlin 45-70 and reload for it anyway. Get some 300 - 350 grain projectiles and load them lightly.

45 auto rim wouldn't fit in my M&P45 or 1911... it's about compatibility.

Moon clip mod would be for 45 raptor... other rimless calibers are just a bonus.

The rifle it would pair with would be an AR10, so near 45-70 ballistics in a semi-auto, with same capacity as 308. It's a modern pairing, compared to the old school pairing of a single action revolver and lever gun.

I do like this option, but the other way is more modern... semi auto & double action, with lots of caliber compatibilities...
