I have never owned a rifle chambered in 7.62x39mm. Can you guys make some recommendations on rifles you have experience with that are semi-auto chambered in 7.62x39mm? Thanks!

I prefer AK variants from Jim Fuller/Rifle Dynamics. RD rifles are pricey, but high quality. I've recently received two for customers. Their fit and finish was excellent. My personal rifle was built by Jim Fuller before he founded RD and was made from a Romy "G" kit.

For a long time, I had a $89 surplus SKS. It just worked. But since it’s a communist tool, I traded it and $50 for a used M&P9.

    Alternatives to the AK:

Sig makes a 556xi Russian in 7.62x39. Can get a folding stock version. Very accurate. Uses AK mags.

PWS Diablo is an excellent little 7.62x39 AR pistol.

I've got two of the Sig 556R carbines with the improved magwell. I love 'em, and I've had good luck with most of the AK mags I've tried. I've also got an SKS, but I've never been a big fan of the AK. They're great tools but they're not my tool.

    I'll throw the M+M m10x out there...

USA made, nice hybrid design... but a bit spendy... if they were under $1000 I'd probably buy one.

Others seem to agree with me- that's about what they sell for on gunbroker... not the $1400 MSRP

I prefer an SKS. Tried AKs. Didn’t care for them. Side by side we were hitting 200 yard steel pretty easily with an SKS vs AK. Mine is a Norinco imported in the ‘80s.

Have’t shot anything else chambered in 7.62 commie.

I want to try one. They seem rather cool
and accurate (for 7.62x39, a round not designed with accuracy as a primary goal)

if they came in multiple calibers I would get even more excited about the platform... seems to take the best of ideas from Sig 556, AK and FN FAL.
