    $79.6 Billion

The outstanding principal debt owed by Texas school districts, or $16,600 per student, at the beginning of the 2017-2018 school year. Including interest? $126.3 Billion is owed by Texas school districts... to be paid by property owners through property taxes.

I already bitch about paying ISD taxes without having any kids going to school.

I didn’t mind it when my kids were in school. Now that they’re grown and gone, I do mind it.

A lot of these bond issues I vote against for several reasons, one of which is that I no longer receive any value from what I’m forced to pay for.

Not to mention, being opposed to much of the socialist crap being taught.

But you did not mind others who did not have kids paying taxes when your kids were in school.

Well thanks for doing my thinking for me.
    No, I don't think that's right either.

I actually have no children of my own.
My GF does, though, and they are out of school.

Well TnJ you live where I do, so how did you like that $100 MILLION School bond of a couple of years ago, what are we a town of 12,000 and the BISD spends money like its water.

And now they are talking about building this giant loop around the city that will cost how much + over runs, hell they cannot even solve the problem with getting in and out of HEB.

The liberals are taking over here, I have seen it coming, wholly different town that when I moved here in '10.

Should have put a question mark at the end of that sentence, don't get too offended.

So should everything be a user fee service?

Need the police, pay $10k for them to show up. After all, why should I pay tax dollars for police when I never use them. And if only those who use the police pay for them, probably would cost several thousand dollars per call.

Go to the public library, $5k to get in the door.

    Well?

So few people vote in school bond elections that grassroots campaigns can reject bond proposals. After this happens, the district will get more frugal in what it seeks.

    Perhaps I misunderstood you.

    Do you think that only those with kids in school should pay school taxes? {Some folks do.}

Not throwing rocks, just trying to explore an idea here.

    I do.
And if I need to use the police or the library I pay for them.
My sewage bill is larger than my water bill, I find that perplexing as well.

That would mean pretty high tuition for public school kid parents. Some folks would probably not be able to afford it.

And it would also mean very high bills for other services such as police, library, etc.

Taxes would drop some obviously (or go away as in the case of school taxes), but for those using public schools, police, etc. the bill would be staggering. More than likely, taxpayers would still have to pay taxes for these things to support those who cannot pay the usage fee.

Streets, water, sewer, city government administrative functions would still have to be supported from a broad tax base.

Where does the money for police & libraries come from.
I wouldn't think it comes from school taxes does it?
