At work, we had set up a tv in a conference room

As soon as I heard a jet hit a tower I knew it was terrorism and that we'd be going to war

And the 2nd one sealed the fate

My friend had a daughter born on that morning talk about bittersweet

Constructing a portable control building for a Saudi prince. He expressed his fear of backlash so I told him he could pass for Mexican. I have never seen a man so grateful and insulted at the same time.

Riding a bicycle outside of Florence in Italy. It was interesting trying to come back. Plane erupted in cheers when we flew into Newark with the smoke still in the air.

The 37th floor of a high-rise in the direct landing path for Love Field airport. Nobody seemed too concerned about possibly emptying the building in case other planes might strike buildings.

Exec'ing for a two-star general here in San Antonio (just down the hall from where I work now). I was thinking about it this morning when I walked up the same flight of stairs as I did that morning before the shit hit the fan. It was just another Tuesday morning at the office. I had no idea of how my life and the world would change in just a few hours.

Also, most believed the first aircraft to hit the WTC was just a bizarre aviation accident. It was not until the second plane struck that everyone realized it was a terrorist attack.

The weeks and months following 9/11 were and still are a blur...

Working at McDermott, guy had a TV in his cubicle.
I looked at his calendar and commented, "it's 9/11, like 911".

    Gunz are icky.
I was in a meeting at work when a co-worker came in and told us an airplane had struck one of the towers.
We all went to the other room where there was a TV on showing the news.
Watched for a few moments and we went back into the meeting.
Then the same co-worker burst in the room telling us about the second impact.
This time we all stayed glued to the TV and witnessed the collapse.
We were all sad pandas that day.

Sleeping... was (and still am) a dumbass, was giving college a fresh start.

Had no idea what WTC was and what impact it would have. I was just shy of 21.

Showed up to school, and after my 1st class, school was cancelled... I remember some middle eastern guys were joking around saying "shhhh.... we're mexican"

I only hope that when my kids are that age (preferably much younger) they would understand something of that nature. I was absolutely clueless.

Heading home after work. Heard the the first plane hit on the radio, I thought it just an accident. Got home turned on the TV just as the 2nd plane hit.

I lived in Bremerton, Wa., I had just woke and turned on the TV. I then went to make coffee when I overheard the news and realized what they were talking about. At that time they had thought it was a cargo jet that hit the first tower. I came back to the living room and saw the first tower burning. I couldn't believe what I saw, and wondered to myself how a cargo plane on a clear day in N.Y. couldn't see the twin towers. I then saw live the second plane hit the second tower and just sat down on my coffee table wondering what the hell was going on. I worked at a Naval Shipyard/ Base at that time and was wondering "Will I even be able to get in?", I knew with the second one that we were under attack and thought sure our security condition would be on lockdown. It wasn't, I guess it even took our government with so much surprise that it wasn't until several hours later, after the Pentagon crash, before security tightened down. It was all surreal to me.

I was onboard a Navy ship training the crew. I walked into the Chief's mess to fill out my training report, and they were all watching it on TV. I stood there and watched the 2nd hit live on TV. Within 10 minutes my training team was off the ship so they could make their emergency departure.

In my office. In a town of less than 2000.
    Time stood still.
We all stopped and watched a news feed from 1500 miles away.
It felt like it was next door.
We saw plane #2 hit the second tower.
We heard and saw reports of the plane crashing in a field in Pennsylvania. Of the partial destruction of the Pentagon.
We gathered. We rallied. We were ready to fight and face an unknown enemy.

There were no enemies in rural west TX.

    We wept.
    We prayed.
We sent friends and kin to foreign soil.
    We remember.
