I don't think that is a good design for .45.

Don't you remember the stories of early failures with the M9 using NATO ammunition? They've since fixed that but it's a design that seems best suited for the 9mm caliber it was intended for.

If I really wanted a Beretta in .45 there is the PX4. Not the same gun at all, but at least Beretta does make a .45 and a pretty decent one from what I understand.

The 92 series is a great 9mm handgun. Making it a .45 seems like trying to force a square peg through a round hole.

Never thought about the 92 in 45ACP.. but the youngest's boy friend just got a new 92, and i really liked the feel of the piece.. AND instead of a double stack mag it could be a single like our old girl the 1911, and maybe even slimmer than the 92 is now..

i remember those early issues as well.. if i remember right a SEAL was killed when his slide stop... didn't .. sad deal, but obviously it's fixed now.

I have a B 92 that is larger than most, I would dig out, but not sure where the dang thing is. Its looks about the same and IIRC they were made for the Hiways patrol or something like that, long since forgot, maybe someone remembers...I will see if I can find which box I put it in...

False internet rumor. Can't find any evidence of a fatality. Been debunked many times before. There were a few injuries though. This article documents the development curve on the handgun. The True Story of the Beretta M9 Pistol

Here is the government report on them. Justia GAO Reports - NSIAD-88-213 - Procurement - Department of Defense

interesting.. yep when those "rumor's" were out there it was before all the debunking sites.. sure didn't know it had been (debunked) .. and glad, the idea of one of our best dying for no good cause always bothered me, and this is the first time i've heard the debunking.. thanks!

There is nothing to prevent a 92 from being converted into .45 Auto. The Germans did that with their 9mm P-08 when the U.S. Army wanted a .45 caliber semi-auto. Fortunately for us, the Browning (Colt) M1911 won out.

Do you mean the design, or an actual 92? There's no way you're going to convert a 92 to .45 ACP without making a whole new gun. The .45 cartridge is too long.

Like I said in the first post- sounds like a good idea until you actually feel one in your hands.
