...says Charlie Kirk, conservative commentator/pundit/author/radio talk show host at his Q&A on the 'Saving America Tour'. Better would be for young people to become entrepreneurs and take risks or go work with your hands. One career Charlie doesn't mention has the only one school for it in Texas which takes care of a number of clients. You might earn a 6-figure salary without a college degree with this skill.

As a college graduate, I agree. Most of the crap classes they make you take mean nothing, and this was well before college became unaffordable. There were probably 5 or 6 classes that mean anything to my career. Most of what I learned was OTJ. Exceptions would be the obvious engineering and science based. If I were doing over again today, I’d go for a trade; probably welding.

Too many people just go to college because they think that’s the next step after high school. No real thought process goes into their decision to take on all that debt. But the democrats sure like it when people are misled into taking on debt that won’t result in a good paying career.

Basket weavers don't get paid much? What is silly, used to be called social studies/history. Now called humanities and is a bunch of crap, taught by poet lovers. Trades will always be in demand. Not so much for video game players.

My kids are both interested in fields that require higher education. But I'm going to guide them to state schools and practical degrees, same as what I did. Many tech companies are (slowly) starting to move away from degree requirements.

The $150-200K liberal studies education makes absolutely no sense to me. Especially with the amount of inexpensive learning resources available these days.

Horseshoeing is an interesting idea. I wonder if there is really a dearth of them here?

I believe there are farrier (horseshoeing.) schools. I have read some full-time farriers teach classes on horseshoeing so it doesn't become a lost art.

I won't be upset if my grandson doesn't go to college. I still am sending my daughter (his mom) to school and she has a masters. I had no help getting my education and I promised my kids I would pay for any education plus 3 months. If my grandson wants college his mom will have to pay for that. There are many excellent trade professions that one can do quite well with.

I am a big advocate of vocational training. Every kid should not go to college. Too many get worthless degrees.

But only 5% of the kids going to college is stupid. That would not fill the jobs that truly require a college education.

College is to prove you’ll do what they say and you have the tenacity to stick it out.

No street smarts. No country boy smarts.
    Wrong.

Try doing an engineering job without the knowledge gained in an engineering college. Want your dentist or surgeon to have only gone to high school?

People need to think before they type.

Some of the least intelligent people I've met were highly educated, and like vegans spared no moment telling you about it.

What kind of engineering? I'll use (one part of) my field, where the "software engineer" title I personally feel is thrown around like Oprah audience prizes. "You're an engineer, she's an engineer, he's an engineer, you're all engineers!" Some are well educated with CS degrees. Some are actually brilliant and had no formal education at all.

I get your point on doctors and dentists, but the crux of your argument most certainly cannot be applied universally.
