Picked up an old S&W with a story today, a 1905 HE target model. This gun was made in 1940, loaded with British proofs, was part of a lot bought by the British Purchase Comission right after Dunkirk from S&W. With it's army more or less intact, but without equipment and the enemy just across the channel the English had to rapidly reequip their army. Absent a large civilian gun pool like we have here in the US they used gold reserves to buy everything they could, this being before Lend-Lease from the US. While a 38 special target revolver isn't something you would likely see in combat, they pretty much bought it if it shot. Later in 1942 under Lend Lease the US sends the Victory model chambered in 38/200. Some how this revolver left the military after the war and made it back here to the states before 1968. It's in good condition, so I imagine it didn't see much use, still, if it could talk.
