I have been wanting to get a hand made knife while in Alaska and I ended up with 2.
    Both were made in Anchorage.
This one was made by Bob Merry.
What attracted me was the Caribou handles. The blade is 440 and it is mirror polished. I dont particularly care for the 440 or the mirror finish but it's a nice knife overall and is more of a keepsake of my trip than a knife I might carry for daily use. I did like the jimping on the front and back of the blade.
The sheath is very nice quality custom stamping

The one below is probably my favorite of the two. It’s an R & R knife from Northern Knives in Anchorage. When I walked into that place, I had died and gone to blade heaven.

They have a full blade making shop with large windows you can watch the work as your look around.

I had never been around so many nice knives before.

They had factory made high quality knives along with several knives from local knife makers from all over the state.

This blade is made in shop by their own blade smith. He trained under the man who started the business decades ago.
It’s single pinned also with jimping and a hardwood handle. The steel is CPM 330V and it also has a high quality leather sheath.

The finish and detail on this one was really something to see and I knew I was walking out with it, (I’m just a sucker for a good drop point) although just 24 hrs earlier I had felt the exact same way about the other knife..LOL.

I felt a tad guilty (not really) walking back out to the truck to face the music with my wife. She just shrugged and said something like, “you brought spending money and you don’t get to come here every day, so if you want it, you’d better get it”

    I love that woman.

These two , along with my Ruger Alaskan and Smith 442 were in the suitcase that Alaska Airlines lost.
Long story short, I drove 170 miles back to DFW the day after we got back, to get this case.
    I was not happy.

I know you set your heart the way you need to.
But, the caribou handles on the 1st one move me.
The shop had two of those with Caribou handles, I studied each one for a long time before choosing this one.

I really liked the Caribou also and was torn between 2 of the same knives with those handles. Each one was slightly different, subtle, but different and I was just taken with the feel of the material

It connects me somehow to that trip in a special way unlike any bumper sticker or hat could, as you mentioned.
