People act like DPMS is lower end... the stripped lowers are 100 bucks. That's not low end. That's medium to high medium end. Same with the uppers. An assembled DPMS upper runs about 550 bucks for 5.56 and up from there. That's not exactly low end.

I used to have DPMS in .308 but I forgot which model it was. It was reliable and accurate enough but very heavy. People like to crap on them but I had good luck with mine. A friend of mine liked to shoot it a lot so I sold it to him.

The early ones had a messed up M4 barrel ramp(the two mini ramps next to each other). It looked like it was cut with a dremel as the barrel was mounted in the upper. Like an afterthought.

Then the receivers were super tight to each other. Hard to take down type tight.

That was a couple decades ago when the AR craze first hit in force. I haven't handled a DMPS since. I still want one of the thick walled, no port door or bolt assist target upper receiver.

My friend was an armorer in the Marines.
We went shopping for an AR for poor old me.
He steered me to a DPMS Oracle. He said that the specs looked good.
I shot it badly. He said that the trigger was its weak point.
He gave me a Wilson Combat 3 gun modular trigger to install.
All I could do was thank him and praise his knowledge.
    My inexpensive AR shoots great!
Of course the trigger cost half of what the gun cost.
I'm thankful he has done quite well in life.

What benefit do you get of a 14.5" barrel over a 16" barrel? I always thought it was maneuverability, but him adding on the 2.5" muzzle device has me wondering of I'm missing something with barrel/bullet physics.
