Went to buy some Monarch today, the cheapest 7.62x39 in the country right now, as far as I know. Didn't see it on the shelf at Academy...I was pretty dissapointed. Went to go look at the pistol ammo behind the counter, and didn't see much 9mm.

Then I spotted my blue Monarch boxes and got 4. I asked why they were behind the counter when usually rifle ammo is out on the floor. Kid said they want to stop people from buying whole cases at a time. Told him that's pretty awesome. They are doing it with the high demand ammo like 9mm and 7.62x39. As he said that he pulled out 4 boxes of 9mm and put it on the shelf behind him. Said he had cases right at his feet but they were supposed to limit the sales per person. I didn't ask if there was a specific #, or if this was a corporate or local manager decision. Saw plenty of other calibers on the shelf and as always shotgun shells were plentiful.

It's very smart of them. Selling it is easy. Getting 10 people in the door instead of 1 isn't as easy so they found a way to generate floor traffic. :patriot:

IMHO...I like that policy. I've been looking for some .380 ammo for almost 2 months. This method increases my chances of getting this ammo.....hopefully soon.

In San Antonio at my local store they said more of it was walking out the door than they were selling. That is why they put it behind the counter. Only the more popular rounds as well.

The sales guy also mentioned this as a reason as well. It would be easy to nab a few boxes.

SOME (not all) of my local Academy store are limiting to three boxes per caliber..... kinda frustrating since I shoot about 3-700 rounds per week..........

Frustrating, but it's a reason why most people can find any ammo at many localities.

We've been limiting ammo sales to people for the past month, and we still have .380 as a result. Some people have gotten a bit chuffed about it, but I always remind them that they have the opportunity to buy the ammo because we limit it, otherwise they'd get nothing.

It doesn't matter to our bottom end to sell the ammo limitless, but we do it so that everyone can get something at least. We've also kept the prices the same, even though we could easily sell our .380 for twice the price.

Trust me, I wasnt complaining, I do understand. I just have to modify the way I shoot for a while until hopefully, the supply catches up with the demand.....

That's the pain in the butt, about this ammo shortage. There was always 380 ammo around. I always read in the forums how this was a "mouse" gun caliber. Now you can't find it anywhere. Must be a lot of mice running around.:banghead:

Must have been a typo, I meant to say 3-7 rounds per week. I only wish I could shoot 3-700, maybe then I could approach the mythical firearms kung-fu master level of excellence attained by htxred. Honestly though, I very rarley shoot less than 300 rounds whether at Shiloh or "the place out in the country" I shoot at... the exception being the few Tac Nights i have been to at Shiloh....

I had to stop by a Walmart in Lewisville (at I35 on Main Street) so I ran by the ammo case. Almost empty as expected, only thing was a few boxes of .44 and .357 Sig as far as pistol ammo, but they too are limiting sales.

They have posted a sign on the case that due to availability, ammo purchases are limited to 5 boxes per customer.

That's the Walmart that had the regulars buying up everything as it came in, for resale at Gun Shows.

I expect this to continue to become popular with retailers.

Have you noticed all the ammo lots of 45, 40 and 9mm being sold on Gunbroker lately?

Its the same ammo that Wal Mart sells...only higher! LOL

Throw in shipping and its no deal at all.

Yes, this is an annoying trend that I would like to see stopped. I am betting that the same bozos that are selling are the same ones that complained last summer when gas got to 4 bucks a gallon...claiming "gouging" and all.

Gouging is ok...as lons as THEY are the ones doing the gouging!

    B*stards...

Personally I have no sympathy at all for those of you who did not have the foresight to buy a box or two per paycheck and put them in a closet.

I buy ammo by the 1,000 and while it is annoying to not find it as regular as I used to I have enought in reserve to get by.

Those of you who whine, piss and moan about the people who buy out every round they find................... grow up, life is not fair, and if you want the ammo, work a little harder and quit expecting the store to hold it so everyone gets some.

This is a lot like "To each according their needs" mentality. Shake the socialist brainwashing you grew up with in the government schools that your parents abused you with and learn to fend for yourselves:banghead:

    Bunch of lazy blissninnies.

Is it SOO wrong to just buy the ammo you plan on shooting right before you go to the range? That's barely even possible now. Not everyone wants to stock up on SHTF every time they go to the store. It's ridiculous. I wish Academy was on the way to the range....
