Doing a search on forum posts, the Trijicon ACOG seems to get pretty good reviews. Considering the 3.5x35.

    Two questions:

    1. Does the "both eyes open" (e.g., Bindon aiming) technique really work with these scopes?
    2. Any thoughts on which reticle? For quick target acquisition would the chevron or horseshoe/dot be better than crosshairs?

    TIA

I have some experience, as ACOGs are great. You get what you pay for.

The donut circle reticle is great for very fast acquisition.
The standard TA01 crosshair/rangefinder is my favorite for accurate deliberate shooting or hunting.
Pricy yet sublime......consider the ACOG/RMR combo for both eyes open immediate acquisition.

    The Bindon thing?
I'm thinking it requires some re-training of our optical cortex.
I've tried it. I think it could become natural were I looking through an ACOG every day like our servicemen do. For the occasional weekend outing I can't seem to embrace it.

The one we used in the Marine Corps had the red chevron so thats the one I'm familiar with. It's also the one I'll be purchasing. Seems to work well enough when I was punching holes in paper.

Picked up an ACOG TA11e (red chevron).

Will try to get it sighted in this week.

    Thanks for everyone's input.

You likely know this, though it's a bit atypical for scopes.

At 100 yards each click is 1/3 inch.

    Not sure why.

I thought maybe it's a metric thing, though at 100 meters each click is about 9.25mm so it's not an even metric adjustment.

    Anybody know why 1/3" ?

Certainly 1/3" clicks are plenty-precise for a battle sight with a relatively course reticle. I love my ACOG, though its a worthy challenge to shoot within an MOA.

I do like the ACOG. Was able to keep both eyes open while shooting.

Believe the ACOG is an excellent scope for self-defense.

    Thanks again for everyone's input.

It’s a great optic.we configured our M4a with the TA31Fs with a MRDS like below:

    I wasn’t a fan of that configuration, but didn’t have a choice.

I rolled my MRDS 45 - 60* to the right so I had to turn the rifle to transition to the MRDS for CQB.
