Are Democrats threatening to shut down the Kennedy Center, presidential libraries, NEA, or any other fluff pet project? Nope. It's always social security, VA, and military they threaten to shut down first.
The immediate need is term limits, by whatever means necessary.
Then, make it mandatory that in the event of a gov't shutdown, the only thing being "cut off" are the salaries of every politician in the House and Senate. Then, if it goes on that long, after a month start de-funding the NEA, etc.... the "fluff" projects as mentioned above....
But, first and foremost, NO pay to politicians. Period.
A government shutdown does not mean federal employees don't get paid! It just means they don't get paid on time.
Congress gets to vote their own raises, benefits; and they surely wont vote for term limits.
The federal budget is one of Congress' most important jobs, and it take compromising of both parties. The rift within the Republican party is not where the stalemate is, because it is the democratic party that is pushing for money going to Ukraine (which is Xden's money laundering scram).
I'll also mention the student loan forgiveness program ($127 Billion so far) that is still going on against the ruling of the Supreme Court.
