Old or not, I'll bet it goes *BANG* :D

Yugo ammo is made with old-school corrosive primers, so you'll need to make sure you clean your gun afterwards.

I order my Yugo ammo off of cheaper than dirt, I love the stuff, never have any problems with it. I get it for my SKS and it begs for more. same goes for the yugo ammo in 223

Yugo 7.62x39, no matter when manufactured, is pretty good stuff. Usually brass cased, and it makes no difference if packed on stripper clips or packed loose in a box of 15 (or more).

Just "assume" it is corrosive, because we have no reliable way of knowing whether or not it is.

    Be well.

    Windex +1.

Followed by hot soapy water poured down the tube. (Funnel & flexible tube).

Dry, then clean as normal. Oil.

    Repeat for two more days.

    Good to go.

No different than punching a cannon tube.

Agreed, I use Windex in my Mosins, SKS and AK rifles...it contains ammonia which gives it a pH between 10.5 to 11.0, putting it well into the alkaline range which helps neutralize the acids that form when black powder residue is exposed to moisture.

It is convenient and has no effect on the bluing...

    Cheers! M2

Yugo ammo is fine for practice, don't expect the best accuracy from it. The AK is more accurate than most folks think it is, especially when fed good ammo. The highest quality ammo I know of for the AK is Corbon and Hornady. I've also had very good results with Winchester and Federal 123gr SP. The Wolf Military Classic HP in the Cammo box has a good rep as well. BTW, when shooting corrosive ammo I use Windex (my boss, Gabe Suarez does too).

It all depends on the AK.

Most AK's bought over the counter cannot put three rounds in a three inch circle at 100 meters, no matter what ammo you feed them.

Others will do quite well with any ammo.

Kalashnikov never designed the weapon to be a "tack-driver." It was nothing more than an answer to Germany's short-barreled rifle that shot a shortened 8mm round.

The AK, however, remains the most effective battle rifle ever built for close combat.

It is the COMBLOC equivalent of the 1911.

Although both are inherently accurate, they suffer from the quality of manufacture.

Hence the wide variation in accuracy.

    Be well.
