I have this hair brained idea to try to build an AK. Found some parts kits for some Romy's, but they're 'pre-G' and, according to the ad, they include the full auto parts. So my question is, if I buy the parts kit (given I have an AK already), am I going to be in deep Kim Chi with the ATF for 'owning a machine gun'?

Possessing the parts with the intent to use them is enough to put you away. Your AK, in it's current state, can't take the parts needed to convert it to full auto. If you've got a drill and some hand tools, the ATF could argue that there is constructive intent, but it's about as likely as getting struck by lightning while riding a unicycle. It CAN happen, but probably won't.

That being said, I still toss all of the FA parts when I get them and/or machine the relevant parts to SA specs. You will probably be replacing the trigger, hammer and sear with US parts anyways.

Thought it best to destroy them. I have no strong desire to have a full auto anyway (way too addictive is the full rock n roll, and it gets expensive). Fun to have, but not practical unless you have a limitless supply of free ammo.

You can re-use some of the FA parts by modifying them to run semi. Check what tools you will need to build it. Might want to get some headspace tools.
