Direct election of Senators by the "people" (17th Amendment) killed Federalism as the founders envisioned for our form of government.
The States lost their "vote" in the national government when Senators curried the favors of fickle voters and not the interests of the State Legislatures.
Any candidate for Senate should campaign on the repeal of the 17th Amendment and restore to the States their voice in national government.
Prohibition (18th Amendment) was a very bad idea, and it was repealed.
Why we tolerate the 17th irritates me to no end.
