So, for most of my life I have had the good fortune of having friends with family land and some great places to hunt. I can remember countless hunts where I was lucky enough to just show up and pull the trigger on my rifle. Might have cost me some whiskey, smoke or beer but always worth it. For the past few seasons I have been putting a little sweat equity into a friends place in the form feeders, cameras and feed. Maybe a little bit of landscaping as well. Overall, it has paid off.
Now I'm getting ready to set up some feeders and put out the game cams. If it was my property I'd probably be running some protein feeders year round as well as the cameras. As it happens, this land is in a limit county(E. Williamson) and low fenced. I have had great success season after season harvesting my 1 legal buck each year. Not that the area is loaded with deer but I seem to get lucky every year right around thanksgiving.
Anyhow, here we are going into October and I don't have a single feeder running or camera up. I do plan on getting set up this weekend. Every year I tell myself to get started early . Considering I'm on under 100 acres of low fenced property, does it really matter ? Am I late to the party... or right on schedule?

I just got my feeders running a week ago.
After being running for only 2 days, I went for a rifle walk at dusk becuase I thought I heard some pigs, but when I got close to the feeder, I spooked off deer instead.
Point being, it only took about a day of having corn on the ground to get deer coming in
I have lots of oaks, but this year it looks like acorns didn’t do well, which is good for me

I feed year round, not because I think there is some great benefit, but more for the entertainment of seeing what is coming in. I really enjoy checking my game cam cards. (Also, I pig and varmint hunt year round)

As for being late, nah. Like others have shared already, critters will find the corn pretty quickly. It may take a little bit for them to establish a pattern, but rest assured, they know it’s there.
