A friend of mine wrote this poem, perhaps to appeal to those that go through life tuned to a different channel. Who knows if it will work, but it's a start. Feel free to share this with friends.

Not long ago, a nation was born
A promise of freedom was the spoil of war

A solder and sailor made their country a vow
To protect this new gift anyway, anyhow

They both had a family: a wife and home
And children that one day have their own

The solder and sailor served with pride
Knowing their nation stood by their side.

With valor they fought for freedom and right
On land near and far through day and night

They returned and were greeted with arms open wide
From family, from friends and from parents and wives

Their nation was safe because so they say
Those few who served and in war were brave

The solder and sailor had sons who they raised
They both taught them honor and the American way

In the arms of their heroes, their sons grew to men
The yearned to make proud their parents and kin

Soon they too were solders like their fathers before
And they too had something worth fighting for.

The Solder and sailor again stood their ground
Ready to face this new evil they found

In mountains and deserts a world away
They honored their fathers all night and all day

But something would change when they finally returned
Their world was no longer the same so they learned

Honor gave way to hatred and greed
Their country was stricken with people in need

The solder and sailor could not understand
What terrible plague had swept their homeland

They looked to their leaders for answers and for hope
And were met with deaf ears that didn’t care about votes

Something was different a fuse must be blown
The people began to keep to their own

When leadership failed the looked to the crowd
The looked to the ones who accepted their vows

“AWAKEN!!!” they cried “From this American Dream”
As you slumber your home is being torn at the seams

Insane they were called wherever they went
It did not deter them to any extent

The solder and sailor took to their knees
How could their country not hear their pleas

The flag flew high and eagles still soared
But nobody knew what either stood for

The freedom once guarded was left all alone
Traded for security and cellular phones

PC was the way things now were
The ways of honor were gone in a blur

Lawsuits and taxes and violence galore
Had taken control and were breeding like boars

The things they once fought for were a memory
Gone were the days of the land of the free.

What solders and sailors held dear to their hearts
Were poisoned from within and then torn apart

And so it would stay until again few would stand
To make wrong into right and defend their homeland.

Who ensures that when they return
Solders and sailors will have the things that they yearn

The families and friends of a country once proud
Who stood above the world apart from the crowd

Who brings freedom to those who don’t care
To those who are lazy and sit in their chairs

When many are afraid to raise their voice
Many will find that they have no choice

Freedom’s a gift that all must earn
It lies not in paper politicians can burn

Solders and sailors will not fight alone
They need a people to love and a place to call home

It’s up to us to make this home come true
For every solder and sailor, for me and for you.

This song is courageous and is awakening the memories...

I don't remember why, but American cowboys were very popular in Soviet Russia.
May be this was connected to the popular book written in XIX century by Mine Read "Headless Horseman",
where the picturesk invironment of Rio-Grande and the cowboys were depicted.

I will comment on the following soviet textless song about cowboys (year 1976):

    YouTube - ???? ??????? ????

Primordially, "mister Trololo" - popular Russian singer invented the text about "cowboy John"
and the song was named: "I am very happy because I'm finally back home"
and the text of the song was close to the following:

"John on his Mustang through the prairie expanses of rushing to his beloved Mary
living in Kentucky, which is waiting for him and for him knits wool socks..."

Very pretty text. But in Soviet times to perform a song with these words was not allowed by the communist censorship.
And finally the song went on without words. Just "tro-lo-lo and wha-ha-ha".

A haunting death throe call for Americans to wake up, stand up, and refuse to give up that which We have been so graciously Given.

"When many are afraid to raise their voice
Many will find that they have no choice
    "

    Thank you for sharing.
