If this is a repost/thread I apologize in advance. I searched to see if it existed and could not find it anywhere. I found some "lucky" boxes of .40 ammo at wally world when I was just looking for some garden stuff. FMJ Winchester white box, nothing fancy. It did get me thinking. I have totally forgotten what ammo used to cost without this "crisis". That being the case, i am having trouble recognizing wether I am paying really horrible prices or slightly above prices for 9mm, .40, .45acp, 223 and 5.56 ammo.
Does anyone remember what you used to pay for these calibers in practice as well as defensive ammo?

I believe we had a thread on this a while back.

Anyways, buying from Walmart is a pretty safe bet unless you shop around and buy in bulk. I don't think their price went up much.

If you want another way to get an idea of what things cost in the past, I have used gun-deals.com and looked at their expired deals section. It's not the easiest to navigate but it goes back to '06, I believe, and includes pretty much every major vendor including wally world. Also, I have used gunbroker search feature to look back at expired auctions as well.

If I recall correctly, the pre-"Sandy Hook" price for .40 WWB FMJ was around $32 - $34 for 100 at WalMart and Academy. Figure about a dollar more for .45 and one less for 9mm - basically a range of around 30-35 cents a round for the three.

So, you paid $34 more for bulk ammo....

Yeah I know, but due to the one box limit at academy, when I went back today to get more, there was none. I knew I was paying a premium, but my wife has a new sig p238 that hasn't been shot yet (purchased 5/3 the day before we got married) and needs breaking in.

It does chap my ass a bit.

Pre madness prices for FMJ/Target ammo

    .380- 30-36 cents per round
    9mm- 21-25 cents per round
    .40 S&W- 30-35 cents per round
    .45- 38-45 cents per round
    .223/5.56- 33-45 cents per round
    .308/7.62x51 50-75 cents per round

This was online, at academy, and wal mart. One thing to note is shot gun ammo availability and prices havent changed. I think its time to go practice with my 12ga....
