I just found this on another forum a mighty interesting read;

Ammunition Accountability Act

Heads up to all of you who swore to defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign AND domestic. Let your state Legislatures know that we do not want this bill passed, and petition them to vote no on this bill. We should keep after them until the
bill is closed by bombarding them with e-mails, phone calls, and letters. The 2008 Legislative session has begun, and the Ammunition Accountability Act is being introduced across the country. Below is a list of states where legislation has already been introduced:

Alabama, Arizona, California, Connecticut, Hawaii, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Maryland, Mississippi, Missouri, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Washington.

It doesn't include Texas so how does this effect us as far as letting our legislators know that we don't want other states to pass it? We kinda don't have any say, nor do they.

I believe that said act has been a failure in every state it was proposed in.

CA has implemented a retarded ammunition microprinting law that will only drive up the cost of shooting, drive numerous small firearms manufacturers out of the state, and build yet another government bureaucracy.

Um, politicians aren't going to run a trace on your email and see where it came from. Send the email/letter and at least it's +1 in their queue.

As for us not having a say in the matter, we do. Giving up gun rights in powerful states (like California) leads to similar federal laws being passed years later.

Just so everyone knows....
there are lots and lots of bizarre legislation drafted in every state, every year. The vast majority never sees the light of day.
Some of those southen and mid-west rural states on this list....they have good pro 2A groups there.It will be a very very difficult uphill battle for any legislation to get through most of these states. California??? Who knows with that bunch of whack-jobs...
I suggest finding people you know in those states and have THEM write their legislators, if you are worried about it.

I'll add this thread to my list of threads to read when I need a chuckle.

BTW, the site that's behind pushing this, the one that has no contact information other than an email address, not even a location, state...nothing, has no information beyond the beginning of the 2008 sessions for all the states they list. And so far, and I'm not going to dig into every one, there is no conclusive action by the end of their 2008 sessions. Even the 3 media links they show are old and one is gone.

Fear mongering....

If something comes up hot for the 2009 sessions, then maybe it's worth paying attention to, but this isn't new, it's been going on for at least 2-3 years it appears.

By the way, you wonder who's behind that web-site and the effort???

"Mace and Ford spent four and a half years and about $200,000 securing the patent for their ammunition tracking system. But once that patent was in place and they had formed a company, the unambiguously named Ammunition Coding System, to market the product, they couldn't find a manufacturer willing to consider stamping their bullets. So they focused their efforts on convincing lawmakers that coded ammunition could be a crucial crime-solving tool."

Can you surmise why these guys started this effort?? $200,000 and 4 years invested in the patent for the process tells a story......

That same setup is hindering the "microstamping" law in CA. The legislature passed it, but did specify that the technology had to be free of patents - so it doesn't look like it's going to take effect on schedule since the patent holders really wanted that state license to print money.

Don't forget if Kommiefornia and New York DO pass this think how upset the L.E. community would be since they wouldn't be able to get any ammo!!!! All the ammo makers would be forced NOT to deliver ANY ammo since they wouldn't implement it in the first place!!! lol
