trying to figure out why the shooting was necessary

disconnect the power on his scooter?

seems like there were lots of other options such as a taser

Maybe it was a throwing knife and the officer feared the guy would throw it at the Lowes employee just inside the entrance. Of course, I suppose that he could have seen a gun or thought he saw one, I mean how did you guys miss the Tommy Gun the guy in the wheel thingy had on his lap.!

I think that now ex-cop will be going to jail for a long time but that is just my guess. I really cannot imagine why he shot and why he shot so many times at that. I imagine there could be something more to it - an actual reasonable reason (in his mind) as to why he shot but it certainly is hard to guess what that reason might have been if there actually was one (in his mind).

What about the shooting in Mesa, AZ, of Daniel Sweet? The police were called because the guy was reportedly shooting an airgun. Two cops shouting contradictory instructions as he was crawling on his hands and knees. When he went to pull up his shorts (the only thing they were wearing), they shot him multiple times, killing him.

The senior officer on the scene was allowed to retire with full benefits. The junior officer stayed a bit longer to retire with benefits due to mental issues from PTSD.

The icing on the "gavno" cake was the junior officer had an issue which probably would have disqualified him from most departments a few years ago.

    Gunz are icky.
The feeling to make a pun is strong with this one but I won’t.
    That’s just wrong.
That dumbazz needs to have the book thrown at him.

    Dunno...

Guy committed a felony crime (robbery, shoplifting at knife point is robbery...)

    Officers are required to act

Guy wont stop and evades (if slowly)

Guy with knife attempts to enter a store where the risk of him hurting someone are MUCH greater (i.e. officers must act NOW)

Officer shoots knife wielding robbery suspect attempting to enter a crowded store.

How many times should they ask the guy to stop before making him? He was the one with a knife committing crimes. Attempting to use a Taser, or a baton likely would have been a good option when they had time and space, but they no longer had either IMO as the guy attempted to enter the store. Had he been shot out in the street, I'd likely say bad shoot, but at this point I dont see a good option. What I saw was a delay in acting that forced the application of deadly force because the time when less-lethal tools were options was wasted with words.

I don't know that it was a "good shoot" but I am not sold on it being criminal either.

Followed him from Walmart to Lowe’s which is probably a good distance walking with him in parking lot. Seems like he could have been physically stopped without a mag dump.

I'm in the same mind. An armed suspect heading into a populated store is clearly a threat, but there were other options to stop him that wouldn't involve live rounds that close to a populated area (disconnect the power pack, knock the scooter over, taser, etc.) I don't know if this cop should go to prison....but he definitely needs to never be a cop again.

There was no immediate threat. Maybe in a few minutes. Maybe if people were close enough for crippled old man to make good on his stabbing threat, maybe if he acted remotely physically able. The MAYBEs and LATER being the reason none of that is justified.

The cop wasted the all time he followed him from one store to the next where he had lots of options.

His back up will probably be kicking his ass minimum for haining that shit storm around his neck. WTF.

    Phuck that pussy.

Any reasonable person would have handled that differently. It almost seems like he wanted to kill someone, doesnt it.
