I've got a portable building being delivered soon.
Is there a good product to broadcast or spray on the site prior to delivery and setup?
I've grubbed up the mesquites cactus and thorny brush. Now I'd like to be confident that the whole underside of the building doesn't become a massive ant colony.

I could do periodic treatments, but plan to underpin the building.

    Thanks.

malthion? Is that still available? Heard this new stuff called Terra works pretty well, but have not used it.

I read that Demon-Max is a good slab treatment, that can stay in the soil as long as 10 years.

If you will spray around the perimeter and about a foot of adjacent ground with some stuff called Viper about twice a year..ants won’t be an issue. It’s commonly sold at Feed stores or Amazon. It’s wonderful stuff. Been using it for years.

Get the stuff used to treat for termites in the soil since it will stay in the soil. It works on ants too. And not having termites under the building could also be a plus if it's wood.

I’d start saving up aluminum cans in preparation for when the fire ants will return - as they surely will. And you can have that building paid off in no time.

Seriously, “reasonably” economical and pretty readily available (from Home Depot or Lowes -10% vet discount) is, “Award” or “Logic”. These take a couple of days to work but they’re effective for about six months. They work by making the Queen infertile. It’s a broadcast method of application and it doesn’t take much to cover an acre - in fact, you’ll think you’re not putting enough down, to do any good. The secret is to make sure it’s a warm temperature day - you want to insure the foragers are out and about looking for food.

It would be good to just ask them what they are planning ahead of time
If you skirt it up after it's set that can keep the likes of skunks from taking up residence also.

I would recommend spraying the complete area to be under the building with a long lasting termite treatment like Taurus SC, Termidor or Bifen XT (check out Do My Own Pest Control). Give it a day then sprinkle Amdro Ant Block all over the ground and then if you want extra protection use Diotomaceous Earth. Sounds like a lot but consider it will be the one and only time you can treat it. If you soak the chemical good into the ground it will last a long time and the powder and granules will kill anything that wanders in and will last as long as it stays dry.

I have three portable buildings up on blocks...I treated the ground like above then tossed a few rodent blocks around and then framed the gap with privacy lattice. I spray around the buildings once a month and just shoot the spray into the edge of the crawl space and it seems to be effective. I would also suggest you hang one of these in the building and replace it every four months...they work great.
