Does anyone here colllect old or antique guns, especially pistols? I am fascinated with all kinds of old stuff, guns are no exception.

I plan to start a serious pistol collection when my legal issues are finished. I want to get some old pistols, stuff like old police issue .38 revolvers, Lugers, Walther P38's, I saw a nice Colt 32.Auto at Reds about a year ago. Stuff like that. My uncle's got a vast collection of guns of all sorts spanning the 20th century. He's got WWI Mausers, Enfields, and Springfields, WWII M1's, Carbines, 1911's. Old British revolvers like Webleys and such.

I plan to, it's just not a cheap collection to get into if you get quality items. Plus I really don't have a place to safely store a collection as of right now.

One of the first things I'm going to buy is a vintage M1911.

I think my first old gun purchase will probably be either a Police issue .38 or a .32 Colt. Start out relatively cheap, at least compared to a 1911.

I would like to eventually as well when funds allow. Assuming guns don't get completely banned in the next few years ;) , I would absolutely LOVE to buy an MG42, as that is the ultimate in my mind. The nice thing is there are plenty of "antiques" out there that aren't terribly uncommon and are still dirt cheap such as CZ52's, Tokarev TT-33's, Makarovs, most common WWII era bolt-actions, etc. AIM, CDNN, and some of the larger distributors seem to have a lot of at least these older handguns like TT-33's, Makarovs, etc for pretty cheap usually.

I've got a few, although nothing of real value. I recently sold a JP Sauer and Sohn "Western Marshall" .44 Mag. I wish I would have taken it to the range at least once before selling it, but I could probably work that out with the guy that bought it. :D

    Also have:

-S&W MP .38 Special (made in the 1910-1920 range)
-2 - 7mm Mausers. One with what I now know is an after-market stock as it was converted for "sport". The other is still full military except the bayonet that disappeared somewhere through the years.
-An old Winchester Model 97 12 ga. of my grandfathers. It was such a bad ass, he never let any of us "boys" shoot it.
-Another old Remington single shot .22 that also came from my grand father. I shot that crap out of it as a kid, shooting turtles and snakes and anything else I could find.

Most of it I'll keep for sentimental value, but not much $$$ value.

I guess you can consider my Mauser vintage, it was made in '42, but it has the eagles ground off and an importer eletropenciled on it so it's worth nothing pretty much.

Guess I'm on the other side of the tracks here. I like to examine and look at older guns but not interested in collecting them. The only guns I am interested in buying are modern, high quality shooting firearms, whether pistol, rifle, or shotgun. I'm one less competitor to drive up prices for the collectors.
