I've been wanting to "invest" in an ELR rig but like y'all stated... no place to shoot it nearby. The range I belong to goes to 1260 but I'm getting tired of hitting the same steel.

Back in 2009 or 2010, I came really close to buying an Armalite AR50 in 50 BMG for $2900, already fitted with a Leopold Tactical long range scope. At the time, the rifle alone was over $3500 NIB.

Problem was, I could have afford to buy and reload for the rifle, I just had no place anywhere close to fully realize the potential long range of the round. Sometimes, I do regret not going ahead and buying it though.

They key is to just shoot things closer that break in exciting ways.

Nah... your too close to the city. Out west... there is some private land that I bet a rancher wouldn't mind a little cash to setup a ELD range. As long as you didn't accidently 86 a cow.

There’s about 12 acres (relatively speaking) of BLM land in Texas and none of it is open to the public.

There’s a valid reason Texas has very little public land of any type.

No shame in the game.... it was my last round in the box For some reason.... knowing it was my last 20th round... it was very satisfying.

My best cold bore was with my 223. 800yrds first round head shot. That made me giggle like a little school girl.

All this LR talk is getting me wound up!!!!! Finger is itching.

My unprofessional suggestion is this forum scout out Ranches in West Central Texas and West Texas and make an offer. Maybe 3k a year and we have our semester meet ups there.
