I'm still finding 9mm available at some point during the week. Today, had my daughter with me, picked up 300 rds 9mm 115gr brass case at one Academy then went to the next and picked up 300 rds 115gr steel case. At that one I could have picked up 1200 rds of 115gr w/steel case(200rds per box X 6 boxes) for .18 cents a round but I just didn't want that much steel casings. That was at the Academy on I-45 just south of NASA Parkway. Also went to Cabela's and Field & Stream on I-45 and got nada...
Should have bought it and sold it on gunbroker for $500

Having a reloading press takes some of the pressure off being at the mercy of the retailers. I am seriously considering adding a press for doing shotgun shells next. Got lots of hulls saved up.
I do load shotshells but unless the supply of cheap winchester and federal dries up (and I haven't looked), it just never pays. I load only because my wife likes some really light loads. But who knows, maybe shotshell will be short too and reloading may be a viable option.

    Gunz are icky.
    Went by Academy on Friday.
They had a bunch of Monarch steel case .223.
    Didn't buy any.
Academy does get ammo from time to time.
You just have to be in the right place at the right time. The neckbeards are running wild. Watched them texting up a storm to each other over that Monarch crap the other day.

If you wait until a crisis to buy ammo..........well......

I am not going to mention how much ammo I have in a public forum. I will say that own and shoot firearms in a variety of calibers.

This is simple math. If you are still shooting during said crisis, there is the need to replace what you have fired. If you shoot between 100-200 rounds every trip to the range, a 1000 rounds of ammo can quickly diminish. If you tried to maintain a 5000 round inventory of a particular caliber, 1000 rounds would be a 20% hit to your inventory if you cannot replace it. If your inventory was 2000 rounds, then you took a 50% hit.

For us, 1000 rounds may not seem like much, but a news story about an arrest will make 500 rounds sound like a massive collection.

Try that (arrest) out with 10,000 rounds and a reloading set up.

Anything over a six shot pea gun with a box of 22 LR nowadays qualifies as an "arsenal".

I inventory my ammo like I was taught to do inventory in our business.....there's a "Normal Stock" (NS) and a Reorder Point (RP). For regular rounds (shot often) that might be 5k rounds NS, 1k rounds RP. Some rounds, NS is 10k rounds, RP 2k - it all depends on the caliber and purpose. I recently had a friend run out of 22 rounds for his grandkids to plink with. I sent him 3500 rounds - still had 3X that many on hand.

The last times out at Cabela's and Scheel's, there were people wanting 9mm and the shelves were bare. Talking to them, they had signed up for LTC class and had their new pistol, class the next day and no ammo! So yeah, there are desperate folk out there. When I stopped by Academy a few weeks back, I bought a set of 300 blackout dies, and the counter guy tells me "those are reloading dies not ammo". I gave him the WTF look. He said people are buying anything that says 9mm on it thinking it is ammo so he just wanted to make sure I knew what it was.
